World Cup 2026: Predictions for June 15 Group Stage

The first full week of World Cup 2026 group stage play takes place on Monday, June 15 with four matches covering Groups G and H across four U.S. host venues. The marquee matchup features Spain in its Group H opener against Cape Verde. Spain is the World Cup betting favorite to win the tournament and a huge favorite in the match.

Another powerful European contender Belgium gets Group G play started against second group favorite Egypt in a match to establish early control of the pool. The second best team behind Spain in Group H, Uruguay is expected to advance and is a strong favorite in its opener against Saudi Arabia. Iran and New Zealand close the slate in a match both view as their best chance to claim three points.

World Cup 2026 Group Matches Today

The expanded format from 32 to 48 teams creates a few mismatches in the World Cup 2026 group stage. Earlier, Germany was a massive World Cup betting favorite in its Group E contest with Curacao and we see it again in the first Group H match on the June 15 schedule.

Not only is Spain the largest group favorite on the board they are the favorite to win a second World Cup title. We’ll see how focused they are in the opening match against Cape Verde as an overwhelming favorite. With several front line players overcoming ailments don’t expect the lineup to be overworked. However, Spain’s depth is what sets them apart.

Belgium is clearly the class of Group G and is considered an elite contender compared to their group counterparts. They face their toughest test in the group stage against Egypt in the opener. Any chance Uruguay has of pushing Spain in Group H depends on beating Saudi Arabia in the opener.

Today’s World Cup Groups Odds

  • Spain, Uruguay and Belgium are positioned as clear favorites in their opening World Cup 2026 group stage matches. Spain is the heaviest favorite on the board with an unplayable moneyline price of -1200.
  • The Group G match between New Zealand and Iran is the most competitive of the day, according to oddsmakers. Iran is an early -110 favorite in what amounts to a coin flip, but experts are predicting a defensive struggle giving value to a draw or New Zealand upset.
  • Uruguay is a solid automatic qualifier candidate as the second place team in Group H and is a big -230 favorite in its match with Saudi Arabia. An expected third-place contender, the Saudis can use any points in their quest for a wild card bid.

Match 1 Prediction and Betting Preview

The talent gap between Spain and Cape Verde is about as wide as World Cup experience between the two countries. Spain is making its 18th appearance in the tournament having won the title in 2010. Meanwhile, Cape Verde is one of four countries making their World Cup debut.

Depth and talent is what separates Spain from every other country. Lamine Yamal is among the favorites for the Golden Boot award and Rodri controls the midfield. Spain’s possession game will prevent Cape Verde from mounting any kind of attack. The health of several key Spaniards was a concern prior to the tournament and could prevent a more sustained assault, though losing the match is out of the question.

Match 2 Prediction and Betting Preview

Belgium is the overwhelming powerhouse in Group G but faces a tough test from Egypt’s lethal attack in the opening match. The talent remains deep for Belgium with several young stars replacing veterans from the “Golden Generation.” The development of Jeremy Doku and Charles De Ketelaere keep the Belgians on track, but youth and inexperience on the backline make them less reliable.

Egypt was unbeaten in 10 qualifying matches conceding only two goals displaying their structured defense. Lethal counterattacks led by Mohamed Saleh and Omar Marmoush are their best chance at scoring, which at times has been an issue.

Match 3 Prediction and Betting Preview

Projected as the No. 2 team in Group H, Uruguay sits comfortably ahead of Saudi Arabia on the odds board. But games are decided on the pitch and any chance for Uruguay to push Spain and stay in automatic qualification territory starts with a win in this match. Uruguay’s implied probability is more than 68 percent.

A strong qualifying run has been overshadowed by poor recent results with just one win in their last five international friendly matches. Uruguay has top-end talent in Federico Valverde and Darwin Nunez and will overpower the Saudis for a crucial group stage victory.

Match 4 Prediction and Betting Preview

The teams predicted to finish at the bottom of Group G battle in a match where both view this as their best opportunity to get three points. That alone should make for an interesting contest. New Zealand had a dominant OFC qualifying runwinning the final two matches by a combined score of 10-0. They face a major step up in competition, though.

Iran relies heavily on defensive structure with a resilient and experienced backline that conceded 12 goals in 16 qualifying matches. Striker Mehdi Taremi is the primary goal scoring threat and will be asked to turn limited chances into goals.

Best World Cup Betting Angles for Today

  • Spain is a massive moneyline favorite to beat Cape Verde and with no value on a straight bet look to alternative markets to sweeten the deal. Scoring is a market to target with Spain getting plenty of goals and Cape Verde few or none.
  • In an expected tight match savvy bettors can use the Double Chance option in their favor. The match between Iran and New Zealand has the closest odds with Iran a -110 favorite. Analysts predict a tight, low-scoring affair.
  • Prime is offering Same Game Parlays for soccer that gives bettors the option of combining multiple selections from one game into a single wager. The choices could include match results, totals, player props and more.

How Group Standings Affect Today’s Predictions

We won’t see how group standings affect match predictions until games are played. Two more groups play their first World Cup match on Monday and teams will have a better idea what adjustments need to be made ahead of their second World Cup group stage match.

Daily World Cup Prediction Summary

Spain is massively favored against Cape Verde with a comfortable multi-goal victory the predicted outcome. I don’t see this match going any other way with the Spaniards looking to impose their will as the group and World Cup favorite.

The other matches are closer according to the World Cup betting odds and offer value on traditional moneyline and goals scored wagers. The increased number of teams in the field thins out the talent gap and creates mismatches in the group stage. And while most opening games are expected to be tight low-scoring affairs, goals can be scored.
