NCAAF Week 2 Predictions: Betting Preview, Odds & Best Bets

The 2026 college football season is underway after an eventful week to officially get the campaign started. Every ranked team from Week 1 will be in action with the competition getting stiffer for most of those clubs. The biggest game on the Week 2 slate is easily the showdown between NCAAF futures favorite and No. 1 ranked Ohio State and No. 5 Texas. Both teams romped in their season openers with the Buckeyes beating Ball State 59-3 and the Horns handling Texas State, 59-7. Playing at home Texas opened as a slight 1.5-point favorite on the NCAAF betting line. No. 16 Michigan was given a second chance to beat Western Michigan and they did with a walk-off Hail Mary. I’m not sure how long the Wolverines will remain ranked playing like they did, but they are involved in the only other matchup between ranked teams hosting No. 10 Oklahoma.

NCAAF Today: Weekly College Football Schedule

Week 2 of the college football schedule gets started on Thursday with a standalone game featuring the Miami Hurricanes. A favorite to win their first ACC crown, the Canes dominated Stanford 45-6 behind the lethal duo of Darian Mensah and Malachi Toney. Mensah had more TD passes (5) than incompletions (3) and amassed 401 yards through the air. Toney caught three of those TD passes among his 12 receptions for 234 yards. Miami opened as a massive 54.5-point NCAAF odds betting favorite against the FCS Rattlers. On Friday the NCAAF today has five games with two non-conference matchups between Power 4 squads. The rest of the action takes place on Saturday with the Ohio State at Texas game in primetime the marquee matchup.

Biggest NCAAF Games Today

• Week 2 of the college football season features several notable nonconference and conference matchups between Power 4 programs. The contest grabbing all the attention is the showdown between No. 1 Ohio State and No. 5 Texas. The teams are facing each other for the third straight season with OSU winning the previous two.

• Another SEC/Big Ten blockbuster between ranked teams has Oklahoma taking on Michigan in the Big House. A four-touchdown NCAAF favorite, the Wolverines escaped an embarrassing loss by walking off Western Michigan, 13-12, with a Hail Mary on the final play. Early NCAAF today odds have the Sooners listed as a 6-point betting favorite.

• Entering the season as the No. 2 ranked team in the country, Oregon also had a tough time beating Boise State. The Ducks erased a 10-point second quarter deficit and won 34-27 but failed to cover the 25.5-point betting line. It’s not easy playing in Stillwater even against a rebuilding Oklahoma State group.

• SEC play gets going for Alabama and Kentucky when they meet on Saturday in Lexington. The Keelon Russell era in Tuscaloosa got off to a good start as he accounted for 335 yards and a TD in Bama’s 48-10 win over ECU. The Tide has won the last six meetings going 4-1 ATS in the last five encounters. They are an early 9.5-point favorite.

NCAAF Scores Today

• Based on the last two meetings we could expect the Saturday NCAAF today game between Ohio State and Texas to struggle for points. The Buckeyes kept Arch Manning in check winning last season’s game 14-7 holding Manning to 170 passing yards. The Horns’ lone score came late in the fourth quarter. Each of the last four head-to-heads played UNDER the closing total.
• Teams that scored 131 points between them in their Week 1 wins will tangle in the Bayou State on Saturday. La Tech dropped 80 on Northwestern State in their opener, but don’t expect that kind of production against LSU. The Tigers were better than expected in Lane Kiffin’s debut, beating Clemson 51-10. The Bulldogs have covered the college football betting line in the past three meetings and they are catching 33.5-points in this one.
• The games between Iowa and Iowa State are traditionally low scoring and it doesn’t look as though much has changed heading into their Week 2 rivalry game. In the last four meetings the teams combined to average 28 points cashing the UNDER three times. 

NCAAF Odds for This Week

With many of the more prominent teams facing tougher opponents in Week 2, the NCAAF odds have scaled down considerably. A favorite of more than 50 points in their opener, Ohio State goes on the road to national championship contender Texas as a slight early underdog. Looking to take advantage of a soft schedule to reach the CFP, Notre Dame will play its home opener as an early 44.5-point NCAAF betting line favorite. A number of non-conference matchups between Power 4 programs boast NCAAF lines of a touchdown or less.

How to Read NCAAF Betting Lines

• Reading NCAAF betting lines requires understanding of three main types of wagers; the point spread, moneyline and the total (over/under). 

• The spread is designed to even the playing field between two unequal teams. The minus (-) sign indicates the favorite with the team needing to win by more than that number to win the bet. The underdog is shown with a plus (+) sign. They can win the game outright or lose by fewer points than the number to cash a winning ticket.

• The moneyline is a straight bet on the game winner. There is no point spread, but the payouts are adjusted based on who’s expected to win. The minus (-) number is the amount you must risk to profit $100. The plus (+) number is the amount of profit on a $100 wager.

• The total is a bet on the combined number of points scored regardless of who wins the game. If the teams score more than the set number the OVER wins. If fewer points are scored than the number the UNDER is a winner.

NCAAF Lines Movement to Watch

• There are several factors that will trigger NCAAF betting lines movement. Roster announcements prior to the first game of the season are a reason and once into the campaign injuries become a major factor. 
• Early betting action for Week 2 is reacting to what transpired in Week 1. Look-ahead lines had Michigan as a 2.5-point home favorite, but after their narrow 13-12 win money poured in against them. The NCAAF line swung drastically with OU now a 6-point road favorite. 
• Tennessee is getting early season interest following their 56-9 Week 1 win. The Vols opened as a 13.5-point road favorite with Georgia Tech, a number that inflated after Tech’s loss to Colorado. See if the number gets pushed past the key number of 14 and consider backing Tech considering the Week 1 opponents.
• Monitor the opening total of 41.5 in the Iowa/ISU contest. Reaction to the Hawkeyes’ outburst in Week 1 could push the number higher making this game ripe to back the UNDER.

NCAAF Predictions for This Week

We have a better idea of what teams are like as the 2026 college football season is now underway. But it’s difficult to know just how good teams like Ohio State and Texas are after Week 1 blowout wins against inferior opponents. That makes NCAAF predictions for Week 2 still tough to nail. And it’s also not wise to overreact to teams like Oregon and Michigan, who each escaped close calls in their opener. The Ducks have historically had problems with Boise State and fading them against a large spread was a NCAAF pick in Week 1. 

When the conference’s best result is a loss you know it wasn’t a good week. That’s what the new Pac-12 just went through. San Diego State beat FCS Portland State and Colorado State upended Wyoming, so it wasn’t a total loss. However, there were some disastrous setbacks like Utah State falling to FCS Idaho State. Boise State over Memphis, Fresno beating Sacramento State and Texas State taking down UTSA are Pac-12 NCAAF picks in Week 2.

NCAAF Game Predictions

• We have to mention the marquee game of the week between Ohio State and Texas. Both teams looked sharp in Week 1 and you know the Longhorns are looking to avenge last year’s loss. Arch Manning got better after last year’s setback guiding an explosive offense. Playing at home gives Texas the slight edge in our NCAAF predictions.

• I said don’t overreact to Michigan’s narrow win, but it’s hard not to after watching them struggle offensively against Western Michigan. And unless things change drastically they won’t have a chance against Oklahoma’s stubborn defense that blanked UTEP in the opener. The NCAAF pick is backing the Sooners minus the points.

• Going on the road to face Kentucky is a big step up for Alabama. The way the offense rallied around Keelon Russell gives the Tide a sense of relief that they can run with anybody. And they may have to score a lot of points, as UK has an offense led by former Oregon OC Will Stein. Bama just doesn’t lose to Kentucky and they aren’t starting now.

Upset Watch for This Week

• Having rivalry games early in the season takes getting used to, but they still have the same emotion regardless. Iowa State is undergoing changes with a new coach and players yet they take success against Iowa into their matchup. Anything can happen in a defensive slugfest and the Cyclones have pulled out a few wins in the past. 

• Give them an opportunity and ISU is capable of stealing a low-scoring victory winning two straight and three of the last four without scoring more than 20 points.

NCAAF Picks and Best Bets

The NCAAF best bets and picks to win in Week 2 of the college football season focus heavily on targeting overreactions from the opening week. With plenty of early betting action impacting several NCAAF lines, experts are jumping on specific odds. One being backed is Texas -1.5 at home against Ohio State. Another team with value is Missouri at -6.5 against Kansas. Mizzou looks far more polished and getting them under a touchdown provides value against a club with issues in its secondary.

Best NCAAF Spread Picks

• After a nice start to the season in romp over Texas State, the Horns are looking at the matchup with Ohio State as a national championship preview, and a chance to avenge losses in the last two meetings. Playing at home gives them the edge to cover the slight 1.5-point NCAAF line.

• This is a good time to back Oregon as they get an “easier” Week 2 opponent in Oklahoma State. The Ducks showed what they can do on offense in the Boise State game and I anticipate they’ll be stronger defensively making that 22.5-point spread a NCAAF best bet to cover.

Best NCAAF Over/Under Picks

• Iowa and Iowa State have a history of playing low scoring games. Only once in the last seven matchups has one of the teams scored more than 20 points. And in those games they cashed the UNDER six times.

• Granted the opposition wasn’t first-class, but Kansas and Missouri both operated like well-oiled machines in their Week 1 wins. Kansas amassed over 600 total yards in a 51-6 win and Mizzou had 562 yards beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 54-14. The schools renewed the Border War rivalry last year combining for 73 points and the NCAAF odds total of 50.5 is well within reach in Friday night’s tilt.

NCAAF Best Bets This Week

A NCAAF best bet has been identified in the Group of Six matchup between Florida International and Buffalo. FIU lost a close game to USF despite having a statistical edge in total yards. Three costly turnovers and eight penalties hindered their chances. Meanwhile, Buffalo struggled to put away FCS Albany giving us good reason to back FIU -10.5. 

Sticking with the blockbuster game of the week; backing Texas at home against Ohio State rates as a strong NCAAF prediction. Arch Manning has evolved into the QB most expected when he came to Austin and beating the Buckeyes is on his collegiate bucket list after he and the Horns were stymied in Columbus last year. 

NCAAF Futures Market Update

Oregon was the only team among the top 10 NCAAF futures favorites to take a tumble after they struggled to get past Boise State in the opener. Ohio State and Notre Dame continue to jockey for position at the top of the board and the Buckeyes can solidify their spot as the favorite with a win at Texas in Week 2. Miami saw their odds shrink to under 10/1 with a dominant ACC win over Stanford.

The Heisman Trophy NCAAF futures odds will bounce around all season as players get more reps under them. Playing well against stronger competition will certainly help a player’s odds like we saw with Darian Mensah. It was a stellar debut for Mensah, completing 27 of 30 for 401 yards and five TD in the Canes’ 45-6 victory over ACC foe Stanford. The explosion also put Malachi Toney on the NCAAF odds board. Toney caught 12 passes for 234 yards and three TDs forming a lethal duo on the Canes’ offense.

Final NCAAF Betting Thoughts

Week 1 established clear market trends as major NCAAF favorites comfortably dominated the public betting board. Established giants like Ohio State, Indiana, Texas, LSU, and Notre Dame all won easily. We also saw a few favorites struggle to put away their underdog opponents. Oregon got by Boise State and Michigan needed a second-chance Hail Mary to avoid an embarrassing loss to Western Michigan. 

Now is also a good time to jump on the unsettled Heisman Trophy profiles in what’s going to be a hectic race all season. Preseason favorites CJ Carr and Arch Manning did nothing wrong but their odds still lengthened adding value to their pick.
