The best rivalry in baseball and one of the nastiest in all of sports is reignited when the New York Yankees visit the Boston Red Sox for the final time in 2025. Both teams are in the thick of the playoff race in the AL with the East Division still up for grabs. Boston won eight of the first 10 meetings and is scheduled to send Cy Young candidate Garrett Crochet to the bump against the MLB leaders in scoring and home runs. The Sunday Night Baseball tilt takes place on Sept. 14 from Fenway Park with first pitch set for 7:10 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Following their games on Tuesday the teams were in a virtual tie for second place in the AL East and for the top wild card. Led by their powerful offense the Yankees looked like a World Series favorite winning 11 of 14 games. They had been in a prolonged slump that saw them fall further off the pace in the division.

New York’s recent run started with a win over the Sox, which was just their second in 10 games against their heated rival. In their 11 wins during the tear, the Yankees scored at least 10 runs four times and averaged more than seven runs a game. They lead the majors averaging 5.22 runs per game and six players have at least 20 home runs giving the Yanks a MLB high 245.

New York’s +130 run differential through Tuesday is the largest in the AL.
The Yankees have MLB’s third highest OVER percentage in road games at 55.2 percent.
MVP candidate Aaron Judge leads the club with 44 home runs and is the MLB leader in on-base percentage and OPS.
The Yankees are 19-23 against division foes.

Boston’s offense took a hit when Roman Anthony and Wilyer Abreu went on the IL last week. Anthony was hitting .292 at the time of his injury and he could reportedly miss the rest of the regular season. Abreu was the team’s home run leader but has since been overtaken by Trevor Story. Still, the Sox rank among the top 5 in runs per game and batting average.

Sunday’s probable Garrett Crochet has become an AL Cy Young contender alongside Detroit’s Tarik Skubal. His 15 wins are the second-most in MLB and he sports the fifth-lowest ERA at 2.57 while leading baseball with 228 strikeouts. He’s scheduled to make his fourth start against the Yankees pitching to a 2.95 ERA in his first three.

Crochet has a 1.17 ERA allowing nine hits with 18 strikeouts over 15.1 innings in his last two starts against the Yankees.
The Red Sox won more than 61 percent of their games since trading Rafael Devers.

Like most teams the Yankees haven’t had a lot of success against Crochet, especially in the last two meetings. And while Yankees probable Will Warren has been decent, he’s not in the same ball park. Warren allowed seven hits and five earned in his last start against the Sox and has an ERA over 4.00 in 147 innings this season. I like the matchup for the Red Sox.

Yankees at Red Sox Betting Tips

The Red Sox are 20-9 in Crochet’s starts this season and their success against the Yankees has me leaning their way on the run line.
The baseball betting total is likely to be small with Crochet on the bump and the Sox have some punch. The Yanks have also hit a home run off the lefty in each of his three starts against them making the OVER tantalizing.
Warren has been stronger in the early innings so lean UNDER on the first five.
