MLB’s rivalry weekend takes us to the borough of Queens for the middle game of New York’s Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets on Saturday’s Baseball Night in America on FOX. With one of the worst records in baseball, the Mets aim to turn things around against their rival.
The Yankees enter the Subway Series with the second-best record in the AL behind only division foe Tampa Bay. They are, however, coming off a series defeat and shutout loss to the Orioles, their fifth in six games.
Yankees at Mets Game Preview
The middle game of the 3-game Subway Series between the New York Yankees and New York Mets is scheduled to be played on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Citi Field in Flushing, NY. First pitch is slated for 7:15 p.m. ET with television coverage provided by FOX.
- The Yankees have been in a slumber offensively during their current slide averaging only 2.33 runs per game while getting shutout twice. So I guess it isn’t too surprising that they cashed the UNDER on the MLB spread in all six games.
- The Bronx Bombers have been living up to their name leading the majors in home runs. Aaron Judge has been doing his thing with an AL leading 16 homers that also has him one of the major league leaders. Ben is second on the team with 13 dingers.
- Before their current rut the Yankees averaged more than 1.6 home runs in their first 38 games. They have five in their last six games. The Yanks are 3-7 in games in which they failed to hit a home run.
- Injuries to players expected to play every day have hindered the Mets offense and as a result they are languishing near the bottom of most offensive statistical categories. Francisco Alvarez was recently added to the IL joining Luis Robert Jr., Jorge Polanco and Francisco Lindor.
- The list of injured players expedited the call up of prospect A.J. Ewing from the minors. After 12 games at the Triple-A level Ewing provided a spark in his MLB debut with a triple, 3 walks and 2 runs scored in Tuesday’s 10-2 win over Detroit.
- It was the second time in 6 games the Mets scored 10 runs boosting their average runs per game to 3.63, still 29th in MLB. They have gone UNDER the closing total in 8 of their last 10 games.
- Carlos Rodon is expected to make his second start of the season for the Yankees. Coming off elbow surgery Rodon struggled with his control at Milwaukee, walking 5 batters with a wild pitch and a hit batsman. He allowed 2 hits and 3 runs over 4.1 innings in a game the Yankees lost 4-3.
Yankees at Mets Predictions
- The Yankees have too much firepower to be held in check for a considerable length of time. And we’ve seen them crush Mets pitching in recent Subway Series games. They averaged 5.33 runs in 6 games against the Mets last season scoring 6 or more runs four times.
- Judge has been a beast in interleague play racking NL pitching for a .307 average with 86 home runs and 177 RBIs in 805 at-bats. He’s struggled against the Mets at Citi Field, though, with a .227 average. Nine of his 15 career hits have left the yard and he has driven in 20 in 66 ABs covering 19 games.
Yankees at Mets Betting Tips
- The Mets won for just the 7th time at home with Tuesday’s victory over Detroit leaving them with the third-worst home record in MLB.
- The Mets have MLB’s top UNDER percentage at 60.5 percent while the Yankees are fifth in the majors at 57.1 percent.
- After getting shutout on Wednesday the Yankees have cashed the UNDER on the MLB betting line in their last 9 road games.
Yankees at Mets Head to Head and Key Stats
- Dating back to the 2023 season the Mets have had a clear home field advantage winning 10 of 13 games at Citi Field.
- The teams have gone OVER the total in the last 5 games in Queens and in 11 of the last 13 games.
- Rodon didn’t have his best stuff in his last start at Citi Field, allowing 5 hits, 2 homers and 6 earned runs in 5.0 innings in a 12-6 loss last July.
