WNBA Betting Preview: Dallas Wings at Las Vegas Aces Odds & Picks
Despite the presence of first overall draft pick Paige Bueckers the Dallas Wings are on the verge of missing the WNBA playoffs for the second straight year, matching a team record since the franchise relocated to the Lone Star state. The Wings ended a five-game losing streak with Tuesday’s 81-80 road win over Indiana, just more than a week after losing at home by 10 to the same club. The Wings had dropped the first three games of the season series to Indy. Dallas looks for a similar end to its season series against the Las Vegas Aces when the clubs meet in Sin City on Sunday, August 17 in a nationally televised ABC game. Tipoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET from Michelob Ultra Arena.
Wings vs. Aces WNBA Game Preview
We didn’t get the matchup between the last two No. 1 overall picks we hoped for in Tuesday’s Dallas-Indiana matchup, but Bueckers solidified her position as WNBA Rookie of the Year scoring 16 points with eight assists and five rebounds in the 81-80 triumph over the Caitlin Clark-less Fever. Having Bueckers on the court was a plus for the Wings, who lost to New York last week with the former UConn standout shelved with a back injury. For the Wings to have any more success down the stretch they need their leading scorer on the court. The Wings are 1-6 in the games that Bueckers has not played in. Bueckers averages 18.4 points and also leads the team in assists and minutes played. Dallas has struggled on defense allowing the third-most points and boasting the worst three-point percentage defense in the WNBA. In Tuesday’s game Indiana became the ninth straight opponent to score at least 80 points against them.
After hovering around .500 for most of the season the Aces climbed a season-high four games over the breakeven point by winning four straight and six of seven after Sunday’s 94-86 triumph over Connecticut. That moved the team from being a fringe playoff contender to fifth in the overall standings. The top eight teams in the league-wide standings qualify for the postseason. A big reason for the surge has been the play of A’ja Wilson, who became the first player in WNBA history with a 30-20 game when she had 32 points and 20 boards in the win over the Sun. It was Wilson’s third straight game scoring at least 27 points and her fifth double-double in the last seven games.
Wings vs. Aces WNBA Predictions
With Wilson and the Aces on a roll they’ll be hard for the Wings to stop. Dallas doesn’t have a defender capable of stopping Wilson on the block and that could lead to another big game for the three-time MVP. In two games against Dallas Wilson has a pair of double-doubles going off for a season-high 37 points in Vegas’ win on July 16. And there’s a good chance the offenses shine in this one. Each team has scored at least 80 points in each of the first three meetings and they’ve cashed the OVER in seven straight head-to-head contests. Preventing opponents from scoring has not been a top priority for either team with both allowing more than 82 points per game.
Wings vs. Aces WNBA Betting Tips
Though the Wings have only nine wins in their first 33 games they have been more competitive against the WNBA betting line going 16-17 ATS. They earned the cash in an upset win over Indiana as a 9.5-point dog, their second straight road cover and third in the last four road games. With a shaky defense and mediocre offense we’ve seen total for Dallas games in the 170s. That’s been too high with the UNDER cashing in four of their last five contests. Their recent surge has also been a boon for Vegas backers with five covers in seven games. With their win over Connecticut the Aces improved to 18-14 overall but are just 14-18 ATS and they are 5-8 ATS in their last 13 home games.
Wings vs. Aces Head-to-Head and Key Stats
Based on recent head-to-head results backing the home team is a good bet. The Aces have won all three meetings this year and nine of the last 10 dating back to the 2023 campaign. Vegas won the most recent meeting 106-80 on July 27 with six different players scoring in double figures led by 24 from Jackie Young. It helped that the Wings were without Bueckers for that game. In the two games the likely ROY played the Wings were close losing each one by four points with Bueckers totaling 36 points.
