Who’s Favored to Win the 2025 SEC Title?
Widely considered the toughest league in college football, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) once again has a number of teams that could easily compete in the NFL. From 2019 to 2022 a SEC team was crowned national champion with three different schools winning the CFP title game. LSU won in 2019, Alabama in 2020 and Georgia went back-to-back in 2021 and 2022. Not surprisingly those three teams are all among the favorites to claim the trophy for the 2025 season boasting college football odds shorter than 10/1. However, those three recent national champions are behind the Texas Longhorns on the odds board. In their first season as a conference member the Horns reached the title game before falling to Georgia in OT.
2025 SEC Season Preview
With more than half the teams in the conference sporting championship odds shorter than 20/1 it’s going to be a dog fight. With some great teams and plenty of good ones there has to be a few patsies and oddsmakers have Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State with the longest odds. Texas won 11 games and went 7-1 in conference play to finish first a season ago. The Horns, along with Alabama and Georgia, will have a new starting quarterback in 2025. Texas is pinning its hopes on a guy who’s thrown fewer than 100 passes in his collegiate career. Arch Manning, a five-star recruit a few years ago, has the pedigree to be a star. He also has a bunch of blue-chip talent at the skill positions to relieve the pressure as part of what might be the best roster coach Steve Sarkisian has assembled. Not only are the Horns looking to win the SEC they’re considered a favorite to win the national championship. Of the top teams on the odds board LSU has the most experienced QB in Garrett Nussmeier, who threw for over 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns last season. They will score points and if the defense rebounds they will be a top contender for the title.

2025 SEC Favorites
Texas Longhorns
There’s no easing into the season for Manning and the Horns, who open the campaign in the horseshoe against defending national champion Ohio State. Manning started two games last year in place of injured Quinn Ewers and the Horns tallied 86 combined points. Those games were against ULM and Mississippi State, so there’s a definite increase in the opponent's talent level. Texas is loaded with talent all over the field with 1,000-yard rusher Quintrevion Wisner keeping defenses honest. There were some holes on the offensive line but expect those to be patched up in time for a title run.
Georgia Bulldogs
The Dawgs beat Texas twice last season going into Austin and pitching a first half shutout en route to a 30-15 triumph. They also won the SEC Title game, 22-19, in overtime. With Carson Beck transferring the QB chores get handed to Gunner Stockton, who did a respectable job when thrust in the spotlight last postseason. He threw for 234 yards and a TD without being intercepted and he should feel comfortable running the offense. UGA always has a strong defense and this year should be no exception.
Alabama Crimson Tide
It isn’t easy replacing a legend so there were some hurdles for Kalen DeBoer to clear last year. During his tenure with the Tide Nick Saban never lost a game to Vanderbilt. DeBoer did that in Year 1 in a stunning upset. Still, Bama was one of the last teams out of the expanded CFP and DeBoer should be more comfortable. Ty Simpson has been around the program for three years and finally gets a shot at starting. He has a veteran O line in front of him and the Tide’s defense will again be among the nation’s best
2025 SEC Longshots
Oklahoma Sooners
Firmly on the hot seat after going 6-7 overall a season ago, this figures to be an important season for Brent Venables. Offense was an issue against the better teams on the schedule with the Sooners scoring a total of 26 points during a three-game losing streak in the middle of last season. John Mateer was brought in from Washington State, where he threw for 3,139 yards and 29 TDs while completing nearly 65 percent of his passes. An improved offense along with what is expected to be a stingy defense could put OU firmly in line for a shot at the championship.
South Carolina Gamecocks
The Gamecocks have one of the most dynamic players in LaNorris Sellers, but they are down the odds board because there are a number of players that need to be replaced, including the entire offensive line. Getting those gaps plugged will allow Sellers to showcase his skills and propel the club to new heights.
2025 SEC Prime Free Picks
The top teams have to replace the most important player on the field, but Texas has the advantage with a strong supporting cast. And their new QB is a Manning, so there’s that. LSU could be the surprise of the league if they get some defense, and there’s no shortage of talent out there. Check out all of your college football betting options in the football betting guide.
