The Bay Golf Club will open its season and look to avenge a playoff loss to the Atlanta Drive GC when the teams meet on Tuesday. Atlanta upset The Bay in last season’s semifinal en route to a perfect postseason and the inaugural TGL championship. Atlanta opened defense of its title with a 6-4 win over New York GC in a Finals rematch.
TGL Preview
The defending champs got a jump on the competition with a win over New York last week in the first match of Tomorrow’s Golf League season for both teams. This will be the first competition of the season for The Bay. The teams were even last season finishing with identical 4-1 records, but The Bay got the tie-breaker with more holes won over the course of five matches.
Another indication of how close the teams were came in the regular season meeting with The Bay handing Atlanta its only match loss, 6-5. Strategic use of the hammer was helpful in the victory with Atlanta forfeiting a point on the 13th hole with the score tied.
A significant contributor in last season’s win over Atlanta, Min Woo Lee is not in the lineup for The Bay. However, the starting trio of Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Aberg and Shane Lowry had success winning two matches by a combined score of 14-6. Clark led TGL with 26 total points won a season ago.
- Winning the title last season and starting this year with an impressive victory has Atlanta positioned as the -138 TGL betting favorite for this match. However, the defending champs sit behind Boston Common Golf in the TGL futures market.
- Even though The Bay handed Atlanta its only loss last season, the team is listed as a +110 underdog.
- Atlanta’s Billy Horschel is becoming a TGL legend with his exemplary play. Horschel drained a 37-foot eagle putt leading to a season-opening win.
Tomorrow’s Golf League Schedule and Betting Lines
The interactive golf venture known as Tomorrow’s Golf league is off and running with five of the six teams having played a match after this one is complete. With TGL co-founder Tiger Woods saying he will be at every match, Jupiter Links GC will be the last to play a match taking on New York Golf Club on January 13.
Following a thrilling season-opening win over NYGC, Atlanta will utilize the same trio of players with Justin Thomas still on the shelf. Alternate Chris Gotterup played a key role in the opening win earning a clutch singles point and the 2022 NCAA DI Player of the Year looked comfortable in his TGL debut barreling the first tee shot of the season down the middle of the fairway.

The Bay Golf Club (+110) vs. Atlanta Drive Golf Club (-138)
- These were two of the best teams a season ago with both winning four of five matches to finish one point behind first place Los Angeles GC. The Bay got the higher seed by virtue of winning more holes over the course of the season (25-21).
- The in-season match was close with The Bay handing Atlanta its lone loss, 6-5. The playoff match, well not so much. With the match still up for grabs heading into Triples play, Atlanta dominated winning 5-1 and earning the 9-3 victory.
- With Wyndham Clark pulling up lame The Bay was at a disadvantage with one of the top players of the season shelved. Clark played all 5 regular season matches and led in several statistical categories.
- Clark is in the lineup for Tuesday’s match and The Bay feels good about its chances. The trio of Clark, Lowry and Aberg was tough to beat last season, in fact nobody beat them. They went 2-0 when playing together, winning by a combined score of 14-6.
- Clark led TGL in total points won a season collecting 26, seven more than the second-place finishers. He excelled in Triples play with a TGL best Triples points and Triples holes won. You can see why his absence affected The Bay in last season’s playoff.
- Horschel continued his outstanding picking up where he left off by draining a 37-foot putt on the final hole for the season opening win over NYGC. He won the most Singles points last season and was tied for first in Singles holes won.
TGL The Bay vs. Atlanta Top Matchups
- Atlanta used its strength to pull away from The Bay in last season’s playoff matchup. Led by Horschel, Atlanta led TGL in Singles points won and dominated in the playoff match winning 5-1. And surprisingly they did it without getting a single point from the TGL Singles point leader. It was an all too familiar showing for The Bay, which was fifth in Singles points won.
- One of TGL’s top players last season, Clark missed the playoff match and he and the rest of the team are looking for some payback. Patrick Cantlay was equally good and their Singles matchup could define the outcome. They will play two of the most difficult holes, including one neither player has seen.
- Shane Lowry gets the unenviable task of matching up with Horschel in this one. Following his performance in the season opening win, Horschel now has an all-time Singles record of 9-2-4 and he’s a main reason why Atlanta has lost only one match. This is a pivotal matchup with both holes being contested suitable for the players strengths.
Best TGL Bet for The Bay vs. Atlanta
- It’s hard to say if The Bay would’ve won the playoff match had Clark played. I do think the score would have been closer, though. With all the great PGA players in the league there isn’t much difference between the teams. It’s a matter of getting the right matchups and hitting quality golf shots. Horschel has been on fire in the TGL and at some point he’s going to cool off. I’m betting that time is Tuesday.
- The thought might be to go with Aberg for the longest drive since he was among the TGL leaders in distance off the tee a season ago. However, he’s playing shorter holes on Tuesday exposing teammate Clark to the par-5s. Clark can launch bombs off the tee and has the inside track to the longest drive. TGL The Bay vs. Atlanta Betting Tips
- This isn’t the same Atlanta team that ripped through the semifinal matchup with Gotterup and Corey Conners replacing Thomas and Cantlay. And The Bay trio dominated matches last season which has the pendulum swinging to the West Coast.
- Consistent play will earn you Player of the Match honors and the most consistent player for The Bay last season was Clark. With added motivation after missing the playoff match I expect the 2023 US Open champ to lead his team and take the honor.
