It’ll be hard to outdo the heroics of Justin Rose, who sank his first albatross in LAGC’s win over Jupiter Links in the most recent TGL match. Players from Boston Common Golf and The Bay Golf Club aren’t worried about matching that, but instead are focused on getting a win in the second match of the season for both squads.
TGL Preview
It’s been around three weeks since the teams last pegged it up with Boston Common looking to build off its first-ever match victory. BC went 0-4-1 in the inaugural Tomorrow’s Golf League season but quickly got in the win column with a 7-5 win over LAGC on Jan. 2. Reserve Michael Thorbjornsen played a huge role in BC’s win capturing points in his two Singles matches, including a match-deciding 15-foot eagle putt on the 15th and final hole.
Boston Common avenged a 6-2 loss to LAGC last season and looks to do the same against The Bay Golf Club when the teams take the TGL playing surface on Monday, January 26 at 7 p.m. ET. The match will be televised on ESPN.
A disappointing playoff showing last season unfortunately carried over for The Bay. The No. 2 seed went 4-1 winning the tie breaker over Atlanta with more holes won, but lost, 9-2, in the semifinals to the eventual champions. The Bay lost again to Atlanta, 7-4, in the season opener on Jan. 6.
- It seems as though every match is coming down to the final holes and last week’s contest between Jupiter Links and LAGC was no exception. Jupiter closed within 5-4 with 2 holes remaining after a successful Hammer play got them 2 points on the 13th.
- Last season’s matchup between The Bay and BC was a true nail-biter, another one that was decided on the final hole. Tied at 4-4 on the 15th hole, The Bay’s Wyndham Clark drained a 10-foot eagle putt to win the hole and the match. Prior to the 15th Clark stated, “I just want my moment, one time.” Welp, he got it and delivered.
- A drought in Triples cost Boston a chance at winning. Throwing the Hammer on the first hole was a bold move and it paid off when Hideki Matsuyama drained a 9-foot putt for a quick 2-0 lead. Boston would go without a point over the next 8 holes and trailing 3-2 entering Singles.
- Boston’s opening win has justified their position as the favorite on the TGL futures odds. BC is currently at +280 slightly ahead of Atlanta Drive GC (+300) and Los Angeles Golf Club (+350). The Bay is further down the odds board at +500.
- Boston is positioned as an early -138 favorite on the TGL betting odds with The Bay at +110.
Tomorrow’s Golf League Schedule and Betting Lines
- We’ve already seen several teams use an alternate player, some out of necessity like Jupiter Links with Tiger Woods sidelined and others due to scheduling conflicts with the new PGA Tour season underway. Boston added Thorbjornsen for its opener and the move paid off immediately. Thorbjornsen dropped a birdie putt on 12 for a 1-point lead and sealed the first ever win for Boston with a 15-foot eagle putt on the 15th.
- Thorbjornsen teamed with holdovers Keegan Bradley and Rory McIlroy giving Boston a well-rounded group. They also have Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott available. McIlroy is the X-factor for Boston. One of the top players in the world, McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam with a win at the Masters last year, and with his direct involvement in TGL golf he better make it work.
TGL Schedule
Monday, January 26, 2026, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Boston Common Golf (-138) vs. The Bay Golf Club (+110)
- Despite not winning a match last season and missing the playoffs, Boston Common is now the favorite to win the SoFi Cup Finals. The presence of McIlroy has a lot to do with that, but Massachusetts native Thorbjornsen gives them an added edge. He became the first player in TGL to make four putts longer than 10 feet in a single match.
- “I’ve seen what Boston Common Golf and TGL are building, and the intensity, innovation, and team aspect fit exactly how I love to compete,” Thorbjornsen said.
- With only 5 matches on the schedule falling into a 0-2 hole could be detrimental to the playoff hopes of The Bay. The team has changed up the roster for the second match with Min Woo Lee making his season debut joining Shane Lowry and Wyndham Clark. Lee played 4 matches last season and is known for his soft tough around the greens.
- A sign that a new season is upon us was the play of The Bay getting to the greens in its opener. They were deadly with the flat stick inside 10 feet but had few birdie chances hitting just 40 percent of fairways and 60 percent of greens in regulation, stats they topped all TGL golf teams in last season.
TGL Boston Common Golf vs. The Bay GC Top Matchups
- Good friends Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will go head-to-head in Singles in what’s sure to be a top moment in this match. The Irishmen and Ryder Cup teammates will each look for an advantage to help their team win. McIlroy is 4-4-4 in Singles while Lowry is 2-7-3. They will play two high-risk, high-reward holes that could be the difference in the match.
- After his highly successful TGL debut, Boston Common is staying with Thorbjornsen in the lineup. Not only did the alternate set a record with four made putts beyond 10 feet, including an impressive 15-foot eagle on the match deciding 15th hole, Thorbjornsen also averaged more than 331 yards off the tee and hit 100 percent of fairways in Boston first ever TGL match win earlier this month.
Best TGL Bet for Boston Common Golf vs. The Bay GC
- The Bay can ill afford another loss after dropping their opener so I anticipate they will play with a sense of urgency. Putting Lee in the lineup is a sign that The Bay is serious about its approach game. They had problems in their opening match and need to give themselves scoring opportunities.
- Boston Common and Thorbjornsen are bloated with confidence after their opening win. The team showed no weaknesses beating LAGC in a back-and-forth duel. We talked a lot about Thorbjornsen, but McIlroy played exceptionally well earning a key Singles points and Boston has a team that can excel at any hole.
TGL Boston Common Golf vs. The Bay GC Betting Tips
- BC is the TGL futures odds favorite and they were hovering around the top of the board even before Thorbjornsen joined the squad. I like BC for the match win.
