The Georgia Bulldogs are still in line for a berth in the SEC Championship game, but with one loss already in league play they can’t afford another setback. The Dawgs take a 5-game winning streak into their top 10 matchup with the preseason No. 1 Texas Longhorns.
The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 15 between the hedges at Sanford Stadium in Athens, GA. Television coverage is provided by ABC.
Texas at Georgia Preview
The Longhorns are getting things together at the right time winning four straight following a disappointing loss to Florida in Week 6. They haven’t been putting opponents away but they are winning.
Their last three wins were by a combined 13 points with two of them going to overtime. The Horns were 0-2-1 against the college football odds in that span.
According to coach Steve Sarkisian, Arch Manning has grown up this season. With such lofty expectations there were some hiccups earlier, but Manning has been hot lately throwing for 674 yards and six TDs in the last two games.
Texas scored 79 points in wins over Vanderbilt and Mississippi State, cashing the OVER in both games.
- Despite giving up 69 points total in the last two games the Longhorns are second in the SEC and 11th nationally allowing an average of 16.4 points per game.
- In the last two games leading receiver Ryan Wingo has 273 receiving yards and a TD. He’s tied for the team lead with 5 TD catches.
- The Horns’ only two losses have come in true road games and they are 0-4 ATS.
- Texas is second in the SEC with a turnover margin of plus-8 recording at least one takeaway in eight consecutive games.
We’ve become accustomed to seeing Georgia put up some gaudy defensive statistics and this season is no different. The Dawgs are among the top 10 in total defense and rushing defense and outside of a couple of games they’ve been locked down.
Last week Mississippi State went 75 yards on the opening drive then managed just 247 yards the rest of the game.
With the matchup against Texas looming Georgia was in a letdown spot, but they didn’t let the first drive dictate the outcome. UGA scored the next 38 points getting three TD passes from Gunner Stockton to put the game away for their fourth cover in five games.
- Stockton has completed nearly 70 percent of his passes for 2,040 yards and 15 TDs for an offense that averages 33.4 points.
- UGA is 9-1 SU but just 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games as a home favorite.
- The Dawgs have the SEC’s fourth-best rushing offense with Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens combining for 1,079 yards and 9 TDs.
- Stockton has accounted for 22 TDs with 15 passing and a team-high 7 rushing scores.
Texas at Georgia Predictions
We have two of the best defenses in the SEC facing inconsistent offenses. And the history between the squads tells us that points should be hard to come by.
Georgia struggled against the mighty attacks of Tennessee and Ole Miss while the Horns have given up more than 30 points in each of their last two games. But those are outliers and I anticipate another low-scoring affair staying UNDER the total.
