Texas A&M at Texas: Odds, Picks & Preview

The Texas Longhorns likely won’t make the College Football Playoff, but their season can be a success with a win over major rival Texas A&M who comes into the game unbeaten. Destined for a shot at a national title the Aggies are one of three unbeaten teams left in the FBS. The game is set for Friday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET from Memorial Stadium in Austin and can be seen on ABC.

Texas A&M at Texas Preview

It’s been quite a season for the Aggies. A team that had disappointed so many times over the years and failed to win at least 10 games in more than a decade is one victory away from completing a perfect regular season. They needed a monumental comeback in Week 12 to get here overcoming a 30-3 halftime deficit to beat South Carolina, 31-30.

Closing as a 16.5-point favorite on the college football betting line it looked like the perfect season was in danger. A historic season continued with the biggest comeback win in program history, spearheaded by Marcel Reed. The Aggies geared up for this showdown with a 48-0 win over FCS Samford last week with Reed throwing three first quarter TD passes.

  • An Aggies win secures a 12-0 regular season and a trip to the SEC title game while also getting them a top 4 seed in the CFP.
  • Reed has multiple TD passes in five straight games and nine total and is second in the SEC and tied for 8th in the country with 25 TD strikes.
  • An area of concern for the Aggies is turnovers. They have 14 giveaways this season and their minus-5 turnover margin has them 14th in the SEC.
  • The Aggies are 3-1 ATS on the road this season.

With a slim hope of making the CFP the Horns desperately needed to beat Georgia two weeks ago. They took an early 3-0 lead only to get outscored 35-7 the rest of the way in a humbling setback. Against the best defensive teams in the country the Horns struggled. They managed a single touchdown in their season opening loss to Ohio State.

Last week’s win over Arkansas showed everyone what was expected from Texas this season, but they failed to deliver on a consistent basis. Arch Manning threw for a career-high 389 yards and the Horns amassed nearly 500 yards of offense, setting a season-high point total in their 52-37 win.

  • Texas covered the 8-point spread in the win over Arkansas but it’s been a struggle at the betting window with a 3-7-1 ATS record this year.
  • After allowing an average of 11.3 points during their first 7 games, the Horns have given up more than 30 points in each of their last four outings.
  • Texas hopes to have starting LB Anthony Hill Jr. back in the lineup after missing last week’s game with an injury. The defense needs all the help against a dynamic offense.
  • In their last three true home games the Horns averaged 47 points with Manning compiling 1,026 passing yards with 10 TDs and zero interceptions.

Texas A&M at Texas Predictions

Rivalry games are unpredictable and this is a huge one. Years of inactivity only fueled the matchup and not only beating but embarrassing the other team is important. I don’t know which team will win the game but we should see some offense. Manning is a more confident player and the Aggies will penetrate Texas’ defense making the OVER a good play.
