Ohio State at Michigan: Top Odds & Betting Tips

More important to the Ohio State Buckeyes than running the table, earning a trip to the Big Ten Championship game and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CFP is ending a 4-game losing streak to their hated rival Michigan Wolverines. They get a chance to finally beat UM on Saturday at the Big House. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on November 29 with the game on FOX.

Ohio State at Michigan Preview

No one will say Ohio State isn’t the better team. But the best squad doesn’t always win in this matchup. The Buckeyes were statistically better in most categories last year and entered the game as a 19.5-point favorite in college football odds. They lost 13-10 but went on to claim the national championship.

OSU has been more dominant this season winning its games by an average margin of more than 30 points. Only two teams have scored more than 10 points against them and none tallied more than 16 points. The Buckeyes rank 1st nationally in scoring defense (7.6) and total defense and are also No. 1 against the pass and No. 2 against the run.

  • Ohio State has been good to backers going 9-1-1 ATS overall and 5-1-1 ATS when the closing spread was more than 20 points.
  • The defense has been superb, but the Buckeyes also have a Heisman-worthy QB. Julian Sayin has completed 79.4 percent of his passes for 2,832 yards with 27 TDs and only 4 interceptions.
  • OSU rushed for 254 yards against Rutgers last week, the most against an FBS opponent this season, and is averaging 238 yards and 6.7 yards a carry the last two games.
  • The last 17 times OSU took an unbeaten record into the Michigan game they are 11-5-1.

When these teams meet you can throw out all the records and statistics. And Michigan still has a chance to play for the conference championship and a berth in the CFP giving them added incentive. The season was in peril over a month ago when a 31-13 loss to USC left the Wolverines at 4-2. Winning their last five games has them back on track.

Injuries to running backs Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall put more pressure on QB Bryce Underwood to deliver. And for the most part he has as the passing game has picked up recently. Underwood threw a pair of TD passes in last week’s win over Maryland, his first in four games.

  • With their two leading rushers injured and scratched from the Maryland game, Bryson Kuzdzal got a bulk of the reps with 100 yards and three TDs on 20 rush attempts.
  • UM covered the 14-point spread last week for just their second payout in the last seven games.
  • Michigan is 5-0 SU but just 2-3 ATS at home.
  • The Wolverines are 3rd in the Big Ten with 17 takeaways.

Ohio State at Michigan Predictions

Losing The Game in four straight years makes OSU antsy to reverse the trend. It also gives Michigan a jolt of confidence. They haven’t dominated teams at home like they’ve done in the past, but the Wolverines are solid defensively. And Underwood gives the defense something to think about with his dual threat ability. I’ll take the points and UM at home in this rivalry.
