Odds to Win NFC East: Odds and Betting Preview

The Philadelphia Eagles are the preseason NFL betting favorite to win the NFC East for the third straight year, though the competition within the division appears to be much stronger than it was a season ago. Major defensive failures and significant injuries marred the division last year leaving Philadelphia as the only club to post a winning record. Drastic changes and better health will reshape the competitive landscape in 2026.

There’s a lot of talk surrounding a team that won seven games combined the last two seasons and finished at the bottom of the NFC East standings. The New York Giants brought in former Ravens coach John Harbaugh to change the culture and identity of a franchise that hasn’t won more than nine games in a decade.

NFC East Division Overview

Most recently the Eagles have been the class of the NFC East finishing first in three of the past four years. In that span they have won two NFC championships and the Super Bowl following the 2024 season. The other teams have made what appear to be significant upgrades to challenge Philadelphia and the division futures odds suggest a closer race than last year when second place Dallas finished 7-9-1.

Every team underwent coaching staff turnover during the offseason with the Eagles turning to new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion to revive a struggling group. Dallas has a new defensive coordinator after allowing a NFL worst 30.1 points per game last season. The biggest shakeup is with the Giants, who hired longtime successful Baltimore coach John Harbaugh.

Last season was not a good one for NFC East teams. The Eagles claimed their second straight division title going 11-6, but every other club had a losing record and for the first time in five years the NFC East had only one representative in the playoffs. A division is only as good as its worst team and the Giants are looking to escape the NFC East cellar after finishing last in each of the two previous years winning a combined total of seven games in that stretch.

The wild card in the NFC East division is Washington, which slipped last year. Behind NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels the Commanders won 12 games and reached the NFC Championship in the 2024 season. Injuries limited Daniels last season and the team formerly known as the Redskins slipped to 5-12.

Based on their success over recent years the Eagles enter the season as the team to beat on the NFC East odds. They boast a solid roster led by Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley but turn to new OC Sean Mannion to revive the offense. Despite the criticism of coach Nick Sirianni, the Eagles have never had a losing season and qualified for the playoffs in each of his previous five seasons.

Any improvement by the Dallas defense in the NFC East stats and the team could be a threat. They brought in Christian Parker as the new DC and invested heavily on that side of the football after finishing last in the NFL in points allowed. The Giants hired Super Bowl winning coach John Harbaugh to shift the culture in the Meadowlands and with better health the Commanders should be closer to the 12-win team from two years ago than last season’s five-win fiasco.

Philadelphia Eagles Division Outlook

The gap between the Eagles and Dallas at the top of the NFC East standings could have played a role in Philly’s late-season slumber. Despite losing four of their last seven games, the Eagles finished with four more wins than the Boys. There was a noticeable decline offensively with the Eagles ranked 19th in scoring, the first time they finished outside the top seven in four years. Under DC Vic Fangio the Eagles ranked among the top 5 in points allowed the last two years.

Dallas Cowboys Division Outlook

The Cowboys are facing pressure to end a two-year playoff drought after winning seven games for a second consecutive season. Led by Dak Prescott, the Boys averaged the second-most yards per game and were seventh in scoring a season ago. The problem was their defense was atrocious giving up more than 30 points and 377 yards a game. Five of their seven draft picks were used on defenders, including Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence in the first round. 

Washington Commanders Division Outlook

Washington’s ceiling is proportionate to how healthy Jayden Daniels remains. Two seasons ago the electrifying rookie stole the show leading the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game. Separate injuries limited Daniels to just seven starts last year and the team was a dreadful 5-12. Much of the problem was attributed to the limited role Daniels played in 2025, but the demise was a collective effort. Washington ranked 27th in points allowed and the coaching staff on each side of the ball was gutted.

New York Giants Division Outlook

Since Tom Coughlin stepped down following the 2015 season the Giants have had a revolving door at head coach. They took a major stop to solidify the spot hiring John Harbaugh, who has won more than 60 percent of his career games. Harbaugh also has 13 playoff wins which are more than the Giants have since winning the Super Bowl in the 1990 season. Jaxson Dart emerged as a top QB threat last year leading the Giants to their most points scored in a season since 2015.

NFC East Stats to Know

For the first time in two decades the same team sat atop the NFC East standings for a second straight season. Philadelphia’s back to back titles were the first by a NFC East team since the Eagles won their third consecutive division crown in 2004. So, by the volatility within the division the Eagles are statistically the NFC East prediction to be dethroned. It’s not like the Eagles dominated the division last year. They split the season series with every team going 3-3 against their division brethren

If the Giants, Commanders and Cowboys are to rise up they must improve defensively. They were all among the NFC East stats worst defensive teams finishing 25th or lower in the NFL in points allowed per game. Dallas was the worst in football as the only team to surrender more than 30 points per game in 2025.

• The NFC East had two of the NFL’s top 10 most productive running backs. Dallas’ Javonte Williams ranked ninth with 1,201 rushing yards and 11 TDs. Saquon Barkley led the Eagles and ranked 10th with 1,140 rushing yards.
• Dallas threw the football at an alarming rate leading the NFC East stats and ranking third in the NFL with 624 pass attempts. Dak Prescott completed a NFL high 404 passes.
• A return to 2025 of Jayden Daniels when he passed for over 3,500 yards and led the team with 891 rushing yards will dramatically improve Washington’s offensive output.

• Philadelphia had the only defense in the NFC East that conceded fewer than 400 total points last season.
• The Cowboys had a defensive meltdown in 2025 allowing the most points per game in the NFL while also finishing last in third-down defense and next to last in red zone defense.

NFC East Predictions

What puts the Eagles as the frontrunner in the NFC East odds is their defense. Under coordinator Vic Fangio the Eagles have been a top 5 unit and the group helped the Eagles overcome a sputtering offense last year. The other teams in the division invested heavily on the defensive side of the football in hopes of helping their NFC East predictions. With their explosive offense, the Cowboys are the likely candidate to dethrone Philadelphia if they can get any help stopping opponents.

Best Bet to Win NFC East

• While the Eagles are the betting favorite to win the NFC East, Dallas is the best value bet at its price.
• The Cowboys feature an explosive offense led by Dak Prescott scoring a NFC East best 471 total points last season. Prescott has the shortest MVP odds among NFC East quarterbacks.
• Dallas took major steps to fix last season’s flaw with a new defensive coordinator and key additions to target the weakness. If the defense is average the Cowboys are the NFC East prediction to win the division.

NFC East Sleeper Pick

• The Giants present the highest NFC East stats upside relative to their NFL futures pricing making them the sleeper pick to win the division.
• The hiring of a successful, experienced coach in John Harbaugh changes the ceiling of the franchise.
• There is a defensive foundation in place and the offense is poised to take a leap forward behind Jaxson Dart and the returns of Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers.

NFC East Team to Avoid

• It seems kind of counterintuitive, but the Eagles are the NFC East team to avoid with their market value inflated and with a low floor relative to their steep price.
• After going 8-4 in one-score games last season some regression to the norm is expected. And the Eagles were just 3-3 against NFC East foes.
• Dallas, New York and Washington took major steps toward improving their weaknesses and I don’t anticipate the injury woes to continue for those clubs. In addition, a division that went two decades without a back-to-back champion is always up for the highest bidder.

Factors That Could Decide the NFC East

Injuries are a part of football and every team will deal with them at some point during the season. One factor that could be mentioned for every division is quarterback health. Washington went from a win away from playing in the Super Bowl to an afterthought after Jayden Daniels was shelved for a majority of last season. And we’ve seen Dallas struggle in the past without Dak Prescott. Every NFC East team made significant changes to its coaching staffs and how the teams react to new leadership will define the NFC East predictions.

Quarterback Play

• The quarterback position within the NFC East has a divide between proven veterans and young players looking to adjust to new coaching situations.
• Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts are the elder statesmen in the division spearheading efficient offenses. Prescott puts up big numbers in a pass-heavy Dallas attack.
• How the Commanders and Giants do depends on the evolution of their QBs. A triumphant return to health of Daniels can launch Washington back to the top of the division. The continued development of Jaxson Dart can greatly influence New York’s chances.

Strength of Schedule

• Based on their opponents’ record from a season ago, the Eagles have the easiest schedule in the NFC East.
• Dallas opponents combined to win less than half their games last season, but the Boys face logistical hurdles. They play Baltimore in Brazil in Week 3 then play three of their next four on the road against playoff teams.
• Washington has the most difficult schedule with opponents boasting a combined .502 winning percentage from a season ago.
