Odds to Win AFC South: Odds and Betting Preview

The Jacksonville Jaguars won their final eight regular season games last year to claim the AFC South title, but the Houston Texans and their Super Bowl-caliber defense are the NFL betting favorite to reclaim the division title. The Texans had won six of the previous 10 division crowns until having their two-year reign interrupted last year.

Blossoming into the star he was projected to be when drafted first overall by Jacksonville in 2021, Trevor Lawrence enjoyed his finest season in 2025 putting the Jags on an upward trajectory with the second-most wins in franchise history. The race appears to be between Jacksonville and Houston, though Indianapolis is a dangerous wild card threat.

AFC East Division Overview

Sustaining their momentum from a season ago is critical for the Jaguars. They won more than nine games in a season just once in their previous 17 seasons before busting out last year with 13 victories and their second AFC South division crown in four years. Meanwhile, the Texans and their No. 1 ranked defense from last season, is prepping for a playoff run that will get them past the Divisional Round for the first time.

For the first part of last season the Colts were one of the top teams in the NFL winning eight of their first 10 games. Injuries took a toll and they failed to win a game over the final two months, eventually finishing third in the AFC South standings with a losing record and outside the playoff picture. Tennessee is seen as a rebuilding longshot under new coach Robert Saleh.

AFC South Teams

The AFC South owns the longest active Super Bowl victory drought with no NFL champion since Indianapolis in 2006. It’s also the only division with more than one team that has never appeared in a Super Bowl.

  • Houston Texans
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Tennessee Titans

Why the AFC South Race Matters

  • The winner of the AFC South is guaranteed a top-four seed and home playoff game in a conference where wild card berths are intensely battled for.
  • The AFC South standings have been unpredictable in recent years giving every team a chance, though some are better than others.
  • With three of the four starting QBs on AFC South teams drafted among the top 3 overall since 2021, the division has become a proving ground for young talent.

AFC South Odds to Win the Division

Houston has emerged as the NFL futures favorite with the shortest odds to win the AFC South. According to oddsmakers the race is extremely tight with Jacksonville and Indianapolis close behind. The Titans are in Year 2 of the Cam Ward era and continue their rebuild looking to avoid a fourth straight last-place finish in the AFC South.

Current Odds to Win AFC South

Winning their final eight games and the AFC South crown last year still wasn’t enough to push the Jaguars past Houston on the AFC South futures odds board. The Texans have sustained success for a longer period with three straight 10+ win seasons and with a menacing defense they are viewed as a threat to reach their first Super Bowl

  • Houston Texans +118
  • Jacksonville Jaguars +210
  • Indianapolis Colts +325
  • Tennessee Titans +975

AFC South Odds Movement

  • Houston is the AFC South odds favorite, but their line has been held back by a questionable offense.
  • The Colts have been steady around their +325 number though questions remain regarding the health of Daniel Jones and a group of receivers that lost Michael Pittman Jr.
  • Jacksonville saw their odds to win the AFC South dip slightly with bettors expecting the trajectory of Trevor Lawrence to continue shooting upward.

AFC South Standings and Recent Results

For the first time in five seasons the AFC South standings saw two teams post at least 10 wins. In fact that’s just the third time in 13 seasons that’s happened. Jacksonville won its last eight regular season games to finish 13-4 claiming its second-division title in four years. They also won the second-most games in franchise history coming within one victory of matching the 1999 squad.

Houston has been the most consistent team in recent years winning 10 or more games for the third consecutive season. The Texans matched a franchise record with 12 regular season wins and for the first time in five years multiple AFC South teams qualified for the playoffs.

Latest AFC South Standings

  • The Jags went 13-4 last season to win the AFC South division with their most wins in a quarter of a century.
  • Houston was a game back at 12-5 with double-digit wins for a third straight season. They matched the franchise record for wins which was set in 2012.
  • Indianapolis lost its last seven games to finish 8-9 for a second straight season.

What the AFC South Standings Tell Us

  • Based on last year’s results the Jags and Texans have developed a two-team power structure at the top of the AFC South standings.
  • Following a second straight 3-14 campaign the Titans need to be patient during their rebuild, though Cam Ward showed developing signs.
  • Indy is clearly in the middle with pieces to compete, but key injuries revealed a lack of organizational depth.

AFC South Team-by-Team Breakdown

Houston boasts a tenacious defense that led the NFL in fewest yards allowed while conceding the second-fewest points. Clearly the group is positioned to take the Texans to heights never seen before. How C.J. Stroud and the offense complement the defense will tell us how good this team can be. The Jags got the type of play expected from Trevor Lawrence last season making them the best AFC South team

The Colts have pieces in place as evidenced by their 8-2 start a season ago. However, a lack of depth made them vulnerable when Daniel Jones was injured. Even legendary Philip Rivers couldn’t end a losing streak that reached seven games by season’s end. Winning more than three games would be a leap for the rebuilding Titans, who have won that many in each of the last two seasons.

Houston Texans Division Outlook

Key acquisitions on offense have positioned the Texans as not only the AFC South favorite, but also a Super Bowl contender. They haven’t been bad finishing in the middle of the NFL pack in yards and points last season, but C.J. Stroud has been inconsistent. A rebuilt offensive line along with the addition of David Montgomery and the return of Tank Dell upgrades the offense. And the relentless group of defenders has few weaknesses.

Jacksonville Jaguars Division Outlook

The emergence of Trevor Lawrence as an elite quarterback transformed the Jaguars. He started every game throwing for more than 4,000 yards. The Jags ranked inside the top 10 in scoring for the first time in eight seasons averaging nearly 28 points per game. They will move forward without last year’s leading rusher Travis Etienne. The Jags also had an impressive turnaround on defense finishing eighth in points allowed with the core of that group back for another season.

Indianapolis Colts Division Outlook

Which Colts team will make an appearance this season? Hopefully for Indy fans it’s the one that went 8-2 to start last season and not the one that finished with seven straight setbacks. Roster depth remains a concern, but Daniel Jones has been cleared from his Achilles injury looking to return to form. Jones was having a spectacular season before everything crumbled. There is top-tier talent on defense but the group struggled at times last year finishing in the bottom third in points and yards allowed.

Tennessee Titans Division Outlook

The Titans are undergoing a complete overhaul after consecutive 3-14 seasons handing the reins to Robert Saleh. Tennessee had a hard time defensively last season allowing more than 345 yards and 28 points per game. Saleh’s background and discipline will help the young core and a reworked defense can’t be any worse. The development of Cam Ward was handed to new OC Brian Daboll with new pieces to work with behind a questionable offensive line.

AFC South Stats to Know

Though the Colts had a flaming hot start winning eight of 10 games, there was a clear divide between the top of the AFC South standings and the bottom. The Jags (13) and Texans (12) combined to win 25 games and each went 5-1 in the division. Between them Indy and Tennessee won 11 games with the Titans 0-6 in the division.

As whole AFC South stats were dominated by solid quarterback play. Trevor Lawrence finished fifth in MVP voting and was spectacular over the Jags’ closing eight-game winning streak throwing for more than 2,000 yards with 19 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Heck even Cam Ward had a productive season for the 3-win Titans.

Key Offensive Stats

  • AFC South stats had two teams rank among the top 10 in the NFL in scoring. Jacksonville was sixth averaging 27.9 points and Indy finished eighth with 27.4 points.
  • Playing behind a wobbly line that allowed him to get sacked 55 times, Cam Ward ended up with a productive season throwing for more than 3,100 yards and 15 TDs.
  • Houston was 13th in the NFL in scoring last season, their highest ranking in nearly a decade.

Key Defensive Stats

  • The Texans boasted the most dominant defense in the AFC South finishing first in the NFL in yards allowed and second in points surrendered.
  • Jacksonville ranked eighth in the NFL allowing just 19.8 points per game.
  • Danielle Hunter (15) and Will Anderson (12) combined for 27 of Houston’s 47 sacks last season.

AFC South Predictions

New coach Robert Saleh and the continued development of Cam Ward have the Titans winning more than three games in our AFC South predictions. They are projected for another last-place finish but they are a dangerous spoiler. Also, Houston’s relentless defense will allow the Texans to remain at the top with the shortest odds to win the AFC South

Best Bet to Win AFC South

  • The Texans have a gnarly defense and the most balanced roster making them the best overall bet to win the AFC South.
  • Betting a plus-odds favorite offers a lower payout than the longshots, but expecting the Jags to duplicate their performance from last season is a risk.
  • Houston has the highest ceiling in the AFC South with offensive upgrades helping C.J. Stroud, which is why they are the safest wager.

AFC South Sleeper Pick

  • The Jags are the obvious sleeper pick in the AFC South predictions based on last year’s results.
  • Trevor Lawrence raised his ceiling with a blistering close to the regular season lifting the Jags to 13 wins.
  • Backing the Jags is a good move with a healthier payout if you believe Lawrence has a new baseline and the defense remains a top 10 unit.

AFC South Team to Avoid

  • After consecutive 3-win seasons don’t expect the Titans to rattle off enough victories to claim the AFC South division title.
  • Pairing a second-year QB with a new coaching staff and scheme rarely translates to a division title.

Factors That Could Decide the AFC South

Three major factors stand out that could decide the AFC South. Houston boasts an elite defense but it needs C.J. Stroud and the offense to emerge as an impactful group. Daniel Jones was playing at an MVP level until his season ended with an Achilles injury in December. The Colts failed to win a game without him. If Jones is fully healthy the Colts could disrupt the AFC South predictions. A step back from Trevor Lawrence could hinder Jacksonville’s chances of repeating.

Quarterback Play

  • The recovery of Daniel Jones dictates the AFC South. Limitations from Achilles surgery will make it difficult to match last year’s early success.
  • Can Trevor Lawrence continue to play like he did during the Jag’s closing win streak? If yes, Jacksonville can have a sustained run atop the AFC South standings.
  • Tennessee invested heavily on offense hoping to speed up the development of Cam Ward.

Strength of Schedule

  • All four teams rank in the top half of the NFL for easiest schedules based on their opponents winning percentage from last season.
  • As a result of their first-place finish in the AFC South the Jags have the most difficult schedule.
  • A slightly easier strength of schedule gives Houston the edge over Jacksonville in the AFC South race.
