NHL Playoff Preview: Hurricanes at Flyers Game 3

The Carolina Hurricanes are halfway to reaching the Eastern Conference final for the third time in four years. They still have to get past the gritty Flyers in order to do that. The Canes have yet to lose in the Stanley Cup playoffs winning their first six games, allowing a total of 7 goals.

Philly is in a different spot than their first round series. The Flyers won the first three games before eliminating Pittsburgh in six. They are down 0-2 in this series and may not have the offense to get themselves out of a steep hole.

Hurricanes at Flyers Preview

Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinal Stanley Cup playoff series between the Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers will be played on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET with the game airing on TNT.

Public Betting Odds Factors

  • Carolina has been one of the most consistent teams over the last several years winning four division titles with two runners-up in the last six regular seasons. Getting to the second round of the playoffs hasn’t been a problem with six straight first round triumphs. However, the Canes were eliminated three times in the second round in their previous five playoff trips.
  • If, as they say, defense wins championships the Canes are on their way. They’ve conceded just 7 goals in their first six playoff games not allowing more than two in any game with a pair of shutouts.
  • One area that’s allowed the Canes to limit goals against is a near-perfect penalty kill. Special teams are so pivotal in playoff games and Carolina has killed 30 of 32 opponent power plays this postseason. It’s also helped them cash the UNDER on the NHL betting line in five of their six games.
  • The Canes have done just enough offensively but more is required for a deeper playoff run. They have scored at least 2 goals in every playoff game but average just 2.83. Logan Stankoven leads the team with 6 goals, twice as many as the next closest player.
  • History isn’t on the Flyers side in this series. Teams that lose the first two games of a best-of-7 go on to win the series almost 16 percent of the time. The odds of winning the series increase dramatically to roughly 25 percent if the trailing team wins Game 3.
  • Though they lost Game 2 the Flyers should feel good about their effort. They dominated for stretches of play and scored the first two goals of the game inside the first five minutes. They were stoned the rest of the way allowing Carolina to chip away getting the winner late in OT.

Hurricanes at Flyers Predictions

  • The Flyers didn’t score a ton of goals during the season averaging 2.93 per game to rank 21st. And it hasn’t helped that leading goal scorer Owen Tippett missed the first two games of the series. Both teams have played close games this postseason while getting standout goal keeping which is why the UNDER has been a moneymaker for both sides.
  • They aren’t the Broad Street Bullies but the Flyers have amassed more PIMs than any other playoff team and that could be an issue if it continues. The Flyers have done a nice job killing penalties with a success rate of 86.2 percent in the postseason, but a Carolina PPG in the first period of Game 2 shifted the momentum after Philly built a 2-0 lead.

Hurricanes at Flyers Betting Tips

  • Their dominant play this postseason and recent success against the Flyers has Carolina as the betting favorite to extend its series lead.
  • Betting the UNDER in NHL Playoff odds has been a strong play for both sides this postseason. The Flyers are 6-1-1 against the UNDER while the Canes played below the closing total in five of six games.
  • The Canes and Flyers are used to playing bonus hockey with five of the last six matchups going to overtime.

Hurricanes at Flyers Head to Head and Key Stats

  • The Canes have owned the Flyers recently winning nine of the last 10 meetings.
  • Philly’s lone win in that span came at the end of the regular season with a 3-2 shootout victory.
  • The UNDER has cashed in four straight games and in seven of the last 10 head to heads.
