Conference play is in full swing as Week 5 of the college football season gets underway. One of the bigger games on the slate takes place in the Big Ten with Ohio State travelling to Iowa. The Hawkeyes continue a difficult stretch that started with a win at Michigan last week and has them travelling to Washington in Week 6.
There are also crucial matchups in the SEC that can alter the conference standings. Florida improved to 4-0 with an impressive win over Ole Miss and takes on Missouri while unbeaten Alabama visits Mississippi State. The Miami Hurricanes can show they are the dominant team in the ACC with a showdown at Clemson. The Canes opened as 17.5-point favorites on the NCAAF betting line.
NCAAF Today: Weekly College Football Schedule
As teams get heavily into their league schedule, Week 5 of the 2026 college football season features a number of key conference matchups with nationally ranked teams looking to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. The highest ranked Group of Six teams continue seeking the automatic CFP bid with Boise State hosting Utah State. The Broncos are currently the top team despite having a loss. The early season setback to Oregon might actually help Boise State in its bid. Early NCAAF odds have BSU as a big favorite.
The NCAAF betting week starts with a pair of games on Thursday. The schedule gets much lighter for Western Kentucky following losses to Georgia and Indiana by a combined 108-20. They visit New Mexico State in a C-USA tilt. The three-game Friday slate is highlighted by a Big Ten clash between Penn State and Northwestern. PSU seeks to avenge last season’s 22-21 loss when the Nittany Lions were more than a 20-point favorite on the college football betting line.
Saturday’s schedule runs all day from Noon ET to 11:59 p.m. ET when San Jose State visits Hawai’i in a Mountain West matchup.
Biggest NCAAF Games Today
- There are always big games in the SEC and this week’s slate doesn’t disappoint. It’s not a requirement to win the conference for inclusion in the CFP giving teams a little wiggle room. Alabama hits the road against surprising Mississippi State and Florida looks to solidify its standing in the conference in a road game against Missouri. Early NCAAF odds have the road teams as slight favorites.
- Miami joined the ACC in 2004 and has never won the league title. The Canes are poised to end that negative streak and send a message when they face Clemson on Saturday. The Canes have injury issues to overcome after losing CharMar Brown and Joshua Moore for the season. That wasn’t an issue in a 52-3 win over Central Michigan and the Canes will be ready for this ACC heavyweight battle.
- The featured game in the Big Ten has Ohio State at unbeaten Iowa on Saturday. The Hawkeyes beat Michigan in dramatic style and their defense will get tested by the Buckeyes, who average more than 40 points per game. Ohio State opened as a two-touchdown college football betting odds favorite.
NCAAF Scores Today
- Iowa has consistently churned out one of the best defensive units in the Big Ten and college football. This season they are again among the best at limiting points. However, over their recent meetings, Ohio State has been able to solve the puzzle totaling 89 points in the last two games. Look for OSU to tilt the scoreboard their way in the NCAAF scores today.
- We will likely see scoring decline in college football with teams playing more games in their weight class. The highest scoring teams had their offensive numbers inflated by massive outings against lesser programs. Georgia pinned 63 on FCS Tennessee State and 70 on Western Kentucky. In Week 3 Oregon beat FCS Portland State 84-0. James Madison scored the most points in a NCAAF game this season beating Wagner 87-3.
- If you’re looking to target the OVER on NCAAF scores today the MAC is the place to go. Five teams from the conference are among the teams with the best OVER percentage in the NCAAF. It’s not because their offenses are overwhelming, rather it’s because they’ve been bad stopping teams. Ball State and Kent State rank among the worst in scoring defense.
NCAAF Odds for This Week
We haven’t completely gotten past the huge point spreads we saw in earlier games, but the NCAAF odds have shrunk considerably as we enter Week 5 of the college football season. With teams more closely matched we’re getting tighter spreads. There are some games that buck the trend, though. Despite their hot start the Vanderbilt Commodores are positioned as a 24.5-point NCAAF betting road underdog for their SEC match with Georgia. Miami is a heavy 17.5-point road favorite for their game with Clemson.
How to Read NCAAF Betting Lines
- Reading NCAAF betting lines requires understanding of three main types of wagers; the point spread, moneyline and the total (over/under).
- The spread is designed to even the playing field between two unequal teams. The minus (-) sign indicates the favorite with the team needing to win by more than that number to win the bet. The underdog is shown with a plus (+) sign. They can with the game outright or lose by fewer points than the number to cash a winning ticket.
- The moneyline is a straight bet on the game winner. There is no point spread, but the payouts are adjusted based on who’s expected to win. The minus (-) number is the amount you must risk to profit $100. The plus (+) number is the amount of profit on a $100 wager.
- The total is a bet on the combined number of points scored regardless of who wins the game. If the teams score more than the set number the OVER wins. If fewer points are scored than the number the UNDER is a winner.
NCAAF Lines Movement to Watch
- There are several factors that will trigger movement on the NCAAF betting lines. Roster announcements prior to the game are a big reason and once into the season injuries to key players become a major factor.
- Miami laying 17.5 points on the NCAAF odds to Clemson on the road is a huge statement. If the public overreacts to the Canes’ early season dominance the number could go higher giving Clemson some value in Death Valley, where the Tigers are a tough out.
- Florida is coming off a demolition of Ole Miss keeping them undefeated and vaulting them up 13 spots in the AP poll. With the Gators carrying immense momentum early money could flood the market pushing their -4.5 point line higher and giving Missouri an opening in the college football betting market.
- Keep an eye on whether the public backs 13.5-point favorite Ohio State enough to push the line past the key number of 14 or if bettors back underdog Iowa to bring the line down.
NCAAF Predictions for This Week
It almost seems like we’ll be doing this every week. Another crazy slate of games saw eight ranked teams lose in Week 4, though six of those squads lost to another nationally ranked program. Penn State and Louisville were the teams that lost to unranked opponents and face questions heading into Week 5. Northwestern nearly upset Indiana and faces a vulnerable Penn State squad on Friday. NCAAF predictions have the Wildcats staying within the 3-point line and potentially getting the upset they didn’t get last week.
NCAAF Game Predictions
- The fans in Iowa City will be energized for the Hawkeyes’ Big Ten matchup with Ohio State. The Buckeyes opened as a 13.5-point favorite and have had all kinds of success penetrating a usually stout Iowa defense. I expect more of the same and NCAAF predictions have OSU covering in a 27-10 victory.
- We can forget about Alabama’s questions at quarterback with Keelon Russell leading an offense that’s averaging more than 45 points. Mississippi State is a dangerous home dog, but Bama’s roster depth and offensive firepower prove to be enough to cover the 4.5-point NCAAF betting line.
- Following their emotional win over Ole Miss, Florida is in a letdown spot travelling to face a hungry Missouri squad in what could be a recipe for disaster. Mizzou is a disciplined team that usually plays well at home. And with Austin Simmons leading a strong offense, the Tigers are a NCAAF pick to stay within the 4.5-point line.
Upset Watch for This Week
- Northwestern has surprised some folks this season and they showed how tough they are with a near upset of Indiana last week on the road. Aidan Chiles has been superb running the offense and facing a reeling Penn State squad after a painful collapse against Wisconsin gives Northwestern an opportunity for the upset at its new stadium.
NCAAF Picks and Best Bets
Early NCAAF best bets for Week 5 of the college football season focus on crucial conference matchups like the Ohio State at Iowa Big Ten tilt. Following their dramatic win at Michigan, the Hawkeyes moved to 4-0 and opened as a heavy underdog against powerful OSU. The SEC will have one less unbeaten team when Alabama visits Mississippi State as a 6-point favorite on the NCAAF lines.
Best NCAAF Spread Picks
- Clemson has quietly bounced back with three straight wins after a season-opening drubbing by LSU. They haven’t fully recovered, but the Tigers have looked better with a more efficient offense and a defense that’s conceded just 37 points in its last three games. Backing a proud home dog with a 17.5-point cushion is a smart play.
- Washington has taken a step back after losing to Minnesota at home last week. The Huskies are a ripe victim for USC after the Trojans were beaten by Oregon. Jayden Maiava leads a potent offense that needs to score to win games, and the Trojans can do that enough to cover the 10-point NCAAF line.
- The inconsistency of TCU’s offense against a resilient BYU club has the Cougars as a prime NCAAF best bet to cover the 6.5-point spread. BYU has been impressive in three wins covering the spread in every game. Led by QB Bear Bachmeier, BYU looks like a CFP contender. They also whacked TCU last season 44-13.
Best NCAAF Over/Under Picks
- Backing the UNDER in an Iowa game will make you a winner more times than not. The Hawkeyes have the No. 1 scoring defense in the country and coming off a walkoff win over Michigan they will be hyped against the Buckeyes. Iowa’s offense isn’t anything special helping the teams go below the total of 45.5 points.
- The high-tempo offenses of Alabama and Mississippi State can potentially light up the scoreboard. Bama’s Keelon Russell and MSU’s Kamario Taylor are explosive, dual-threat QBs who direct their units flawlessly. Both defenses have flaws making this a back-and-forth NCAAF pick that should go OVER the 59.5 point threshold.
NCAAF Best Bets This Week
- Iowa boasts the best scoring defense in the country, but their offense lacks the firepower to hang with Ohio State. The Buckeyes have dented Iowa’s defense in the past and with Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith on another level, OSU will do enough to pull away in the second half making them a NCAAF best bet to cover the 13.5-point spread.
- With Missouri relying on a ground game to control the clock and protect their defense from Florida’s explosive offense, look for this SEC contest to have fewer points than most expect. Missouri will look to create a sluggish tempo frustrating UF’s playmakers and keeping the total safely UNDER 56.5 points.

Final NCAAF Betting Thoughts
As conference play heats up across the country, Week 5 of the college football season offers an incredibly layered NCAAF betting board. Following another crazy week of action that saw eight ranked teams lose, the top 25 landscape was completely reshaped. Four teams – Penn State, Louisville, Michigan, Texas A&M – fell out of the rankings entirely replaced by four new squads. Betting markets have increased relative to early-season non-conference blowouts and analysts recommend locking in early key numbers before public weekend volume forces NCAAF lines to move.
