Week 3 of the 2026 college football season might seem like a letdown after the chaos that ensued in Week 2. The biggest game of the season so far lived up to expectations with Texas rallying to beat Ohio State to take over the No. 1 spot in the national rankings shaking up the entire college football landscape. Texas will look to avoid a letdown in its Week 3 game against UTSA with the Longhorns a big 29.5-point favorite on the opening NCAAF betting line. Ohio State will take on Kent State on Saturday as a massive 51.5-point favorite to get back in the win column. NCAAF Today: Weekly College Football Schedule

Following their dramatic comeback win over Ohio State, the Texas Longhorns are now the No. 1 team in the land with the release of the new AP Top 25 NCAAF poll. With the loss the Buckeyes dropped out of the top 5 for the first time in two seasons. It might be time to overreact to the state of the Oregon Ducks. Entering the season ranked No. 2 the Ducks barely got by Boise State in their opener and they were majorly upset by Oklahoma State last week.

Week 3 of the season opens on Thursday with an ACC confrontation between Syracuse and Pitt. The Orange hasn’t won in Pittsburgh since 2001 dropping 11 straight. Pitt opened as a heavy 10.5-point NCAAF odds betting favorite. On Friday the NCAAF today features ranked teams with a Big 12 brawl between No. 22 Houston and No. 13 Texas Tech. No. 21 Oregon looks to right the ship against FCS Portland State. The remainder of the schedule takes place on Saturday with LSU vs. Ole Miss the featured matchup of the day.

Biggest NCAAF Games Today

• The undisputed marquee matchup of Week 3 is the SEC confrontation between LSU and Ole Miss. Not only are both teams flirting with championship aspirations, you could also call this the Lane Kiffin Bowl. Both clubs are unbeaten showing off their offensive prowess. LSU opened as a 3-point NCAAF odds road favorite.

• Supremacy in the Big 12 is on the line in Friday’s game between Houston and Texas Tech, one of three contests on the Week 3 slate between nationally ranked foes. The Cougars warmed up for the game with a 77-6 trouncing of Southern with most starters on the bench by halftime. TTU had a more difficult time beating Oregon State yet still opened as an 8.5-point favorite.

• Alabama is off to a good start winning its first two games by a total of 66 points. The Tide is in a good spot to avenge last season’s loss to Florida State when the two meet in a non-conference Power 4 game on Saturday. FSU shocked Bama 31-17 last year winning easily as a 13.5-point underdog on the closing NCAAF odds. The spread is even bigger this time around with the Tide laying 20.5-points on the early line.

NCAAF Scores Today

• Beating Portland State won’t erase the failure Oregon experienced at Oklahoma State, but beating the Vikings soundly will help the Ducks feel better about themselves. NCAAF scores today could rise since the Ducks have knocked their FCS opponent around in recent games. Oregon dropped 81 on PSU when the clubs last met in 2023 and has scored at least 62 points in each of the last three meetings.

• Both SMU and Louisville are and have been prolific in recent years moving and scoring the football. Kevin Jennings has vaulted up the Heisman Trophy futures odds board averaging 383.5 passing yards with eight TDs in two games. Louisville is averaging 48.5 points so there’s a good chance the scoreboard lights up in this ACC clash.

• The Matt Campbell era has started splendidly with Penn State opening with two convincing wins giving up one touchdown and only nine points. They face another Group of Six squad in Buffalo on Saturday with the Bulls struggling to score. This is a prime candidate to go UNDER the closing total on the college football betting line.

NCAAF Odds for This Week

Before conference play gets into full swing some of the more prominent programs will tangle with lesser opponents shifting the NCAAF odds for Week 3 into ridiculous range. Following their loss to Texas, Ohio State will have a tune up against Kent State where the Buckeyes are a massive 52.5-point NCAAF betting line favorite. One week after their controversial win over Western Michigan, Michigan rebounded by beating ranked Oklahoma in the Big House. The Wolverines have scored a total of 30 points yet opened as a huge 35.5-point NCAAF betting favorite in Saturday’s matchup with UTEP.

How to Read NCAAF Betting Lines

• Reading NCAAF betting lines requires understanding of three main types of wagers; the point spread, moneyline and the total (over/under). 

• The spread is designed to even the playing field between two unequal teams. The minus (-) sign indicates the favorite with the team needing to win by more than that number to win the bet. The underdog is shown with a plus (+) sign. They can win the game outright or lose by fewer points than the number to cash a winning ticket.

• The moneyline is a straight bet on the game winner. There is no point spread, but the payouts are adjusted based on who’s expected to win. The minus (-) number is the amount you must risk to profit $100. The plus (+) number is the amount of profit on a $100 wager.

• The total is a bet on the combined number of points scored regardless of who wins the game. If the teams score more than the set number the OVER wins. If fewer points are scored than the number the UNDER is a winner.

NCAAF Lines Movement to Watch

• There are several factors that will trigger NCAAF betting lines movement. Roster announcements prior to the game are a big reason and once into the season injuries to key players become a major factor. 

• Clemson hit the board as a 4.5-point favorite in its game with North Carolina, but early action on the underdog Tar Heels has forced the number to drop. As of this writing Clemson is a 3-point home favorite on the NCAAF odds.

• Heavy action is tracking larger spreads like Penn State giving 38.5 points to Buffalo in addition to big shifts on the game totals like in the Miami vs. Wake Forest contest. The over/under in that ACC tilt has climbed five points.

• Following lopsided victories over Tennessee State and Western Kentucky, the markets are trying to evaluate Georgia. The Bulldogs are a big 24.5-point favorite with the total at 54.5 for their SEC opener against Arkansas.

NCAAF Predictions for This Week

Following a chaotic week that saw Texas rally late to beat Ohio State, Oregon getting upset by Oklahoma State and OU losing at Michigan, the Week 3 slate is highly volatile with a number of crucial matchups. We can comfortably back Ohio State to crush Akron State as the Buckeyes recover from their collapse against Texas. OSU already covered a 50-point spread beating Ball State in their opener and doing it again shouldn’t be a problem in our NCAAF predictions. Also, Oregon has a history of scoring a lot of points against Portland State targeting that game as one to go OVER the total.

• There will be plenty of emotion as well as two outstanding teams on the field in Oxford on Saturday night. SEC games are a spectacle without the storylines but the LSU at Ole Miss matchup is more than a game. Lane Kiffin returns leading LSU is what’s sure to be an emotional high-scoring environment in our NCAAF predictions.

• The early-season Big 12 clash between Houston and Texas Tech sets the stage for the rest of the season. The Red Raiders have the offensive depth and playing this critical game at home is a bonus, but early sharp action has the Cougars as a NCAAF pick to keep the score within a touchdown.

• The culture at Michigan State is changing under Pat Fitzgerald and you can expect them to fight until the end in their matchup with Notre Dame. Besides, nearly 30 points is a major spread for a rivalry game. The Spartans probably won’t win the game, but staying inside the NCAAF line can be done.

Upset Watch for This Week

• Clemson still hasn’t recovered from their season-opening blowout loss to LSU. They did get a win last week upending Georgia Southern but still looked shell-shocked in the lackluster effort. Somehow the Tigers opened as a 4.5-point favorite against North Carolina in their ACC contest on Saturday.

• Early action on UNC brought the NCAAF line down to a field goal and the Tar Heels look like a candidate to pull off the upset after starting the season with a pair of wins. 

NCAAF Picks and Best Bets

Early NCAAF best bets for Week 3 of the college football season focus on exploiting early mispriced lines before the public changes the board. Following a hectic Week 2 that saw Arch Manning lead Texas to a stirring come from behind win over Ohio State, Michigan rebound from a debated win in its opener and Oregon get stunned in Stillwater, the college football betting markets have opened up some highly exploitable NCAAF lines.

Best NCAAF Spread Picks

• The biggest headline of Week 3 is the return of Lane Kiffin to Mississippi as the visiting coach. Ole Miss will be heavily backed by emotion, but the early consensus has the Tigers leaning on their offensive efficiency and rugged defense to control the game and post a road win by more than a field goal.

• Clemson has struggled to look convincing early in the season watching their early -4.5-point NCAAF line against North Carolina dwindle to just a field goal. It could go even lower with news that starting QB Christopher Vizzina will miss the game. Backing UNC and the points is the NCAAF best bet.

Best NCAAF Over/Under Picks

• Sticking with the marquee game of the week, look for LSU and Ole Miss to go up and down the field pushing the limits on the OVER 58.5. Both teams are overly aggressive on offense with vertical passing games that push the ball down the field. A defensive stop will likely decide the game, but don’t expect many of them. This will be a fast-paced shootout.

• Scoring 133 points in their first two games moved the needle on the total for Georgia in its contest with Arkansas. Those points were amassed against lesser opponents and with a SEC foe on the slate scoring will be more difficult. And UGA’s defense will keep Arkansas from compiling points leaving UNDER 54.5 a strong NCAAF pick.

NCAAF Best Bets This Week

• Analysts are targeting Virginia Tech to cover the 3-point NCAAF odds in their matchup with Maryland in Week 3. VT has looked like a different team early in the year under James Franklin and the former Penn State coach had all kinds of success against the Terps during his Big Ten tenure. The hot Hokies are a NCAAF best bet to cover the line.

• Michigan State coach Pat Fitzgerald has a history with Notre Dame and in this program defining moment you know he’s going to have his team ready to play. Are the Spartans poised for an upset? Probably not, but staying within a NCAAF line that’s up to 29.5 points is a more likely scenario.

The national championship NCAAF futures odds were shaken up by the results of Week 2. Texas jumped to No. 1 in the national rankings and is now the favorite to win the title thanks to beating Ohio State. Oregon saw its odds balloon after an upset loss to Oklahoma State while the other favorites all held serve for the most part.
