MLB Daily Predictions: August 1 Odds

Saturday’s MLB schedule brings a full 15-game card, with two nationally televised matchups leading the way. Minnesota visits Seattle on FS1, while the Yankees meet the Cubs at Wrigley Field on FOX. Those games anchor our MLB Daily Predictions, but the card also offers useful total angles in Texas-Houston and Milwaukee-Los Angeles. Seattle is our preferred moneyline side, while San Francisco is the higher-risk value pick. The focus with these predictions will be on starting pitching, home-road splits, recent form, scoring trends and team performance.

Today's MLB Games to Watch

Saturday’s schedule begins with St. Louis at Toronto at 3:07 PM ET and continues through Detroit at the Athletics at 9:40 PM ET. The most important games for this preview are the two national broadcasts, but several additional matchups stand out because of their starting pitchers or betting direction. Bettors can compare the full board through the Prime Sportsbook MLB odds page once Saturday lines become available.

Featured Matchups of the Day

Minnesota at Seattle starts at 4:10 PM ET on FS1. As of this writing, the Twins were at 54-54, while the Mariners were 53-55. Both teams were 5-5 over their last 10, but Seattle has the stronger home profile at 30-23. The pitching matchup also favors the Mariners on full-season numbers. Logan Gilbert owns a 3.44 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, while Connor Prielipp has a 4.73 ERA and troubling road splits that include a 6.56 ERA and 1.84 WHIP.

The Yankees-Cubs game at 7:15 PM ET on FOX is the strongest matchup in terms of their records. Both clubs were 61-46 and 7-3 over their last 10. New York was 35-23 on the road, while Chicago was 30-22 at home. Max Fried brings a 3.23 ERA and 2.66 road ERA into the matchup. David Peterson has a 5.80 season ERA, although he has allowed only three earned runs over his last three starts.

Games Drawing the Most Betting Attention

Texas at Houston deserves attention as an over candidate. Rangers games are 8-2 to the over in their last 10, Ronel Blanco has allowed nine earned runs and four home runs in two starts, and Kumar Rocker gave up seven earned runs to Houston on July 11.

Milwaukee at the Los Angeles Angels points the other way. Jacob Misiorowski has a 1.58 ERA and 0.75 WHIP, while José Soriano owns a 3.29 ERA and has not allowed a home run in his last five starts. San Francisco at San Diego also matters because the Giants are our higher-risk value side.

MLB Predictions for Today's Biggest Matchups

The best Saturday analysis starts with the two televised games. Minnesota-Seattle presents a clear offense-versus-pitching contrast, while Yankees-Cubs matches two 61-win teams with very different strengths. Our MLB predictions today lean toward Seattle at home and New York in the pitching matchup, although the Cubs’ offense makes that second game more difficult.

Top Game Predictions

Seattle is the preferred side against Minnesota. The Mariners rank sixth in team ERA, fourth in WHIP and second in quality starts. Minnesota ranks ninth in runs per game, but its pitching staff sits 25th in ERA and 24th in WHIP. Gilbert gives Seattle the stronger starting point with a 3.44 ERA, 133 strikeouts and only 26 walks in 125⅔ innings.

Prielipp has improved recently, posting a 3.24 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over his last three starts. The concern is his performance away from home. He is 0-3 with a 6.56 ERA and 1.84 WHIP on the road. Seattle’s offense ranks 28th in runs per game, batting average and OPS, so this is not a pick based on scoring power. It is a bet on Gilbert, Seattle’s pitching staff and the Mariners’ 30-23 home record.

The Yankees-Cubs matchup is closer. Chicago ranks second in runs per game and fourth in OPS, while New York leads MLB with a 3.40 team ERA. The Yankees also rank second in home runs and have gone 35-23 away from home. Fried has allowed only one home run all season and carries a 2.66 road ERA. Those numbers give New York the pitching edge.

Chicago still has a path because its offense averages 5.21 runs per game. Pete Crow-Armstrong leads the Cubs with 23 home runs, a .285 batting average and a .919 OPS. The prediction is a Yankees win, but this is less appealing than Seattle because Chicago’s offense can pressure Fried and the New York bullpen.

Potential Upsets Worth Watching

San Francisco is the value-side selection at San Diego. The Giants have the worse record, weaker recent form and a 20-35 road mark, so this is not a sure thing, as the pick rests on the matchup rather than the standings.

Tyler Mahle has allowed four earned runs over his last 18 innings and is coming off six scoreless innings against Milwaukee. Walker Buehler has a 5.13 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP and only a 14 percent quality-start rate. San Francisco also has the better batting average and OPS, while the Padres rank 25th in OPS.

The main warning is Mahle’s 8.05 road ERA. That keeps the Giants from becoming a top play, but Buehler’s inconsistency gives San Francisco enough of an opening to consider at the right price.

MLB Odds & Betting Trends Today

Saturday’s MLB odds were not yet available at the time of writing, so there are no verified opening lines or current prices to compare. That makes the starting-pitcher information especially important. Once markets open, bettors should check the Prime Sportsbook MLB odds page for the latest moneylines, run lines and totals.

Opening Lines and Market Movement

Seattle should receive support because of Gilbert’s full-season numbers, Prielipp’s road struggles and the Mariners’ winning home record. The final price will determine whether the moneyline remains playable. A strong move toward Seattle could reduce the value even when the matchup still favors the Mariners.

The Texas-Houston total could also draw early over money. Blanco has given up four home runs in 10 innings, while Rocker allowed three home runs in his previous meeting with Houston. Houston ranks third in home runs and 11th in scoring, and the Astros’ team ERA ranks 26th.

Milwaukee-Los Angeles could open with a lower total because of Misiorowski and Soriano. Misiorowski’s 1.58 ERA is one of the strongest starting-pitcher numbers on the slate. Soriano has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts.

Betting Trends That Could Influence Today's Games

Minnesota’s full-season games are 62-45-1 to the over, while Seattle’s are 52-50-6. Seattle’s last 10 games are 7-2-1 to the over, but Gilbert’s control and Prielipp’s improved recent form could keep the game from becoming automatic over material.

Texas is 58-45-4 to the over, and its last 10 games are 8-2 to the over. Houston is 56-49-4 to the over. Those trends support the Texas-Houston over direction.

Milwaukee is 48-57-2 to the over, while the Angels are 49-58-1. The Angels’ recent O/U record is 3-7. Those records support the under, although Milwaukee’s fifth-ranked scoring offense remains the largest concern.

Best MLB Betting Picks Today

The best MLB betting picks on Saturday come from one home moneyline side and two total directions. Seattle has the strongest combination of starting pitching and venue. Texas-Houston offers the clearest over setup, while Milwaukee-Los Angeles is the preferred under.

Best Moneyline Pick

Seattle Mariners moneyline over Minnesota Twins

Gilbert gives Seattle the strongest starting-pitching advantage among our selected games. He has a 3.44 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 133 strikeouts against only 26 walks. Seattle also ranks sixth in team ERA, fourth in WHIP and second in quality starts.

Minnesota has the better offense, scoring 4.76 runs per game, but Prielipp’s road performance is difficult to overlook. His 6.56 road ERA and 1.84 road WHIP create a matchup that Seattle can exploit even with its weak offensive rankings. The Mariners’ 30-23 home record provides another reason to back them.

Best Run Line or Total Pick

Texas Rangers at Houston Astros over

The total number will matter once it is posted, but the matchup points toward a lot of runs. Blanco has allowed nine earned runs, six walks and four home runs in 10 innings. Both of his starts finished over.

Rocker has pitched better in his last two outings, but Houston scored seven earned runs against him on July 11. The Astros rank third in home runs and 11th in scoring. Texas has also played eight overs in its last 10 games.

Milwaukee Brewers at Los Angeles Angels under

Misiorowski has a 1.58 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 185 strikeouts in 120 innings. Soriano owns a 3.29 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP over his last three starts. The Angels rank 24th in OPS, and their recent O/U record is 3-7.

Milwaukee’s offense is the danger, but the starting pitchers and full-season under records make this a reasonable second total pick.

Top MLB Best Bets Before First Pitch

The best Saturday positions are built from pitching, team strength and home-road performance rather than unavailable early prices. Bettors should still compare the posted number before placing any wager. A good matchup can become a poor bet when the price moves too far.

Best Bet of the Day

Seattle Mariners moneyline

Seattle is the best overall bet because the Mariners have the stronger starter, the stronger pitching staff and a 30-23 home record. Gilbert’s 0.99 WHIP gives him a clear edge over Prielipp, whose road WHIP is 1.84. Minnesota’s offense creates some risk, but Seattle has the more dependable run-prevention profile.

One Value Pick to Consider

San Francisco Giants moneyline at San Diego

This is a higher-risk MLB best bets today selection. San Francisco has struggled on the road, but Mahle enters in better recent form and Buehler has a 5.13 ERA with a low quality-start rate. The Giants also hold small advantages in batting average, OPS and home runs.

The value depends entirely on the eventual price. San Francisco should only be considered if the market offers enough return to justify its poor road record and Mahle’s road splits.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time are MLB lineups usually announced on game day?

+

There is no fixed announcement time for every MLB team. Lineups are normally posted at least an hour or two before the game, but bettors should check again close to first pitch because late changes can affect player props, team totals and game prices.

How do confirmed starting pitchers affect MLB betting odds?

+

Starting pitchers can have a major effect on moneylines and totals. A strong starter may lower the expected scoring and move the moneyline toward his team, while a weaker or less proven pitcher can push the market in the other direction.

Why do MLB betting lines move throughout the day?

+

Lines can move because of betting action, confirmed lineups, pitching changes, weather and other updated information. Market movement does not always mean the original side was wrong, but it can change whether the current price still offers value.

What happens to MLB bets if a starting pitcher is replaced before the game?

+

It depends on whether the wager was placed as Action or Listed Pitcher. An Action wager remains active even if the starter changes, although the sportsbook may adjust the odds or line. A Listed Pitcher wager is canceled and refunded if either named pitcher does not start. Most standard baseball wagers are set to Action unless the bettor selects the listed-pitcher option, but sportsbook rules should always be checked.

Can weather conditions affect MLB betting markets?

+

Yes. Wind, temperature and rain can influence totals, delays and postponement risk. Weather can also affect whether a starting pitcher completes his normal workload, so bettors should review the latest forecast before first pitch.
