Minnesota at Oregon Betting Odds & Game Preview

After a couple of close calls the Oregon Ducks are looking to get back to their dominant ways. Oddsmakers believe there’s a chance that happens in Week 12 pegging the Ducks as a whopping 25.5-point favorite in college football odds for their Big Ten matchup with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

The game is set for Friday, November 14 at 9 p.m. ET from Autzen Stadium in Eugene, OR and will air on FOX.

Minnesota at Oregon Preview

The Gophers are 6-3, but a deeper dive says the record is misleading. One of their wins was over FCS Northwestern State and they also have victories over 2-win Purdue, 27-20, and last week over 3-win Michigan State.

In games against the Big Ten’s upper crust the Gophers were crushed 42-3 by Ohio State and 41-3 at Iowa. Minnesota is 1-5-1 ATS in its last 7 games.

A strong defense has allowed the Gophers to win six games. The group ranks among the top 20 nationally in yards allowed and gives up 21.6 points per outing.

In Week 8 they recorded nine sacks and held No. 25 Nebraska to 213 total yards in a 24-6 upset. That game was also on a Friday night against a ranked foe.

  • Minnesota has registered at least 7 sacks in a game three times with a program record nine against Nebraska and rank 5th nationally with 32 sacks for the season.
  • Seven players have multiple sacks led by Big Ten co-leader Anthony Smith with 8.5.
  • In their 8 games against FBS opponents the Gophers are averaging 18.5 points. Nine of their 26 touchdowns were scored in a 66-0 win over NW State.
  • The Gophers are 121st nationally in total offense and 124th in rushing. They average 23.8 points overall to rank 97th.

The Ducks have won eight of nine games this season, but last week’s 18-16 victory at Iowa was their biggest. On a day the offense struggled, Dante Moore did enough on the final drive setting up Atticus Sappington to make the game-winning field goal.

And the defense did its part holding Iowa to 239 total yards and keeping a third straight opponent under 20 points.

Despite all their speed and playmakers the Ducks are a physical team. They controlled the trenches against the Hawkeyes rushing for 261 yards and averaging 7.3 yards a carry.

Oregon has the sixth-best ground game in the FBS averaging almost 240 yards a game. They’ve cashed the UNDER on the college football betting line in five of their last seven games.

  • The passing game faltered last week with top receivers Dakorien Moore, Gary Bryant Jr. and Kenyon Sadiq all impacted by injuries. Their status moving forward is unknown.
  • The Ducks have held seven of nine opponents under 20 points and they rank 6th nationally in scoring defense allowing 13.8 points per game.
  • The Ducks are 0-2-1 ATS in their last three home games, including an outright loss to Indiana in Week 7 as a 7-point favorite.
  • Over his last two games Dante Moore has just 198 passing yards without a TD.

Minnesota at Oregon Predictions

Overall the Gophers have been strong defensively, but against the better teams in the Big Ten they’ve struggled giving up more than 40 points to OSU and Iowa.

And after a few games of below average play on offense, the Ducks are ready to break out. The total of 44 is low and Oregon could hit the number on their own making the OVER a good play.

Minnesota at Oregon Betting Tips

  • The Ducks opened as a massive 25.5-point favorite, the sixth time this season giving at least that many points.
  • Oregon is 2-2-1 ATS in the previous games when laying at least 25.5 points.
  • Minnesota is +1423 on the moneyline with Oregon at -3800.
  • Catching 23.5-points in their Week 6 tilt with Ohio State, the Gophers failed to cover the spread in the 42-3 road setback.
  • Oddsmakers anticipate a low-scoring game with the total set at 44.
  • The Ducks are 5-2 against the UNDER in their last seven games while the Gophers have played below the total in three of their last four.

Minnesota at Oregon Head to Head and Key Stats

  • Recent conference realignment gives us matchups we’ve rarely if ever seen. Minnesota and Oregon have played four times previously with this being the first since the 2003 Sun Bowl.
  • The Gophers won that matchup 31-30 on a late field goal.
  • Minnesota’s most recent trip to the West Coast came in Week 3 and resulted in a 27-14 loss to Cal with the Gophers failing to cover the 3-point line.
  • Since the start of the 2020 season the Gophers are 4-11 SU against ranked opponents.
