LIV Golf has had a nomadic existence in its brief history bouncing around from country to country across the continents. For the first time the league will visit Africa for this week’s LIV Golf South Africa, the fifth tournament on the season schedule. As has been the case in the first four events, Jon Rahm is the outright LIV Golf odds favorite on the early line.
What Is LIV Golf South Africa?
Along with a tournament in Louisiana later in the season, LIV Golf South Africa is a new destination and event on the schedule. It is the fifth of 13 individual events on the schedule with the 14th tournament being the season ending team championship. The Southern Guards GC team is composed of South Africans Dean Burmester, Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace and Charl Schwartzel played a role in securing the tournament.
Where Is LIV Golf South Africa Played?
The first ever LIV Golf event in South Africa will be contested at The Club at Steyn City. Located just outside of Johannesburg, the course can stretch to nearly 7,600 yards at par 71. The peaceful surroundings are a contrast to how the course will play. The Jack Nicklaus design team strategically placed upwards of 80 bunkers on property offsetting wide fairways.
LIV Golf South Africa Schedule
The tournament uses the standard LIV Golf shotgun start format with all 18 holes having a group of players tee off at the same time. The 4-day event runs from Thursday, March 19 to Sunday, March 22 with start times just after 6 a.m. ET. The field includes up to 57 players with no cut.

LIV Golf entered a partnership with FOX Sports and its family of networks last year giving unprecedented coverage to the league. TV coverage for LIV Golf South Africa will be spread across FOX, FS1 and FS2. Live streaming is offered on the FOX Sports app and LIV Golf+. LIV Golf South Africa Betting Odds & Markets
Favorites prevailed in the last two events after we saw major upset winners in the first two tournaments. Jon Rahm won his third LIV Golf individual title in Hong Kong when he was positioned as the LIV Golf betting favorite. Last week in Singapore, Bryson DeChambeau won his fourth title as the second favorite.

A long course with wide fairways is a gold mine for big hitters like DeChambeau, who is bubbling with confidence after his playoff win last week. But you have to consider the South Africans, who have the most experience of any player on the course. Louis Oosthuizen is the only one of the quartet that has yet to win a LIV Golf title.

Who Won LIV Golf South Africa in 2025?
Being a new tournament there is no defending champion. Steyn City has hosted DPW Tour and Sunshine Tour events in the past with several current LIV players taking a twirl around the property, including Dean Burmester, Laurie Canter and Tom McKibbin. Burmester was runner-up at the 2022 Steyn City Championship.
