LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship Odds & Betting Preview

GOLF

LIV Golf makes its first trip to the state of Michigan for the season ending team championship, otherwise known as LIV Golf Michigan. The team-only format will consist of two days of match play with a final round of stroke play action with 12 teams of four players vying for the prestigious title. A new twist this year has 12 teams playing all three days with no first-round byes for higher seeded teams like we saw in the past.

And while 12 teams will compete at the end all 13 teams will head to Plymouth with the two lowest seeds taking part in a play-in match. Majesticks GC and Iron Heads GC will duel for the 12th seed and likely first round opponent of top-seeded and LIV Golf betting odds favorite Legion XIII. Captained by Cameron Smith, Ripper GC won the title last year, the third different team to win in the first three years of the event.

2025 LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship Overview

Serving as host for the team championship is The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort, located in the Detroit suburb of Plymouth. A brand new course that opened last year, The Cardinal plays at 6,980 yards and par 70, according to LIVGolf.com, and for every player in the field this will be a new experience.

A change in the format is also new to the players. The three day event will start on Friday, August 22 with quarterfinal match play consisting of two singles matches and one foursome match with each worth one point to the winner. The team earning two points within each contest is declared the winner.

The six winning teams and six losing teams are grouped together for another round of match play on Saturday. The three winning teams from Saturday will advance to play for the team title in Sunday’s stroke play round. The score of all four players counts toward the team score with the lowest total score of the three winning teams earning the championship.

It sounds complicated but it really isn’t. For the second straight tournament Jon Rahm lost in a playoff, but he did enough to overtake Joaquin Niemann to win the individual season title. Rahm also has a chance to cash in with his team Legion XIII the favorite and No. 1 seed after winning four team titles during the year. LIV Golf Michigan will air on FOX Sports. 2025 LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship Top Contenders

Legion XIII +275

Rahm competes in the team championship for the first time after missing last year’s event. And he boosts the chances of Legion XIII due to his incredibly consistent play all season. Rahm won the individual season award despite not winning a single tournament. Since his worst finish as a LIV golfer two months ago in Dallas, Rahm closed with four straight top 5s with three of them a runner-up and the last two a playoff setback.

With Rahm leading the way and Tyrrell Hatton and Tom McKibbin posting low scores most of the time, the team finished among the top 5 in all but one tournament this season.

Fireballs +600

The rise of youngster Josele Ballester has Fireballs GC as a team to watch in this event. Ballester finished T7 in the UK and followed with a playoff loss in Chicago helping his team to five consecutive top 5s to close the year. He wasn’t around earlier in the season when Fireballs won three straight team titles, but captain Sergio Garcia, Abraham Ancer and David Puig were.

And the addition of Ballester makes this team stronger.

Torque +600

Captain Joaquin Niemann won five individual titles during the year and teammate Sebastian Munoz won his first last week in Indianapolis giving Torque plenty of momentum. The team closed with a bang winning the title last week and finishing second the previous two tournaments for their best finishes.

Carlos Ortiz has been solid, finishing with back-to-back top 5s giving him five for the season helping Torque earn the No. 4 seed.

Smash +1600

Further down the odds board I like Smash because Brooks Koepka is the captain. It has been a quiet season for Koepka finishing outside the top 25 in his last five LIV starts but he enjoys the team element and always seems to rise to the occasion.

Talor Gooch is one of the most successful players in LIV and finished the year with five top 10s in his last seven starts, including his fourth career victory last month at Andalucia.

The price isn’t very appealing but I don’t see how you can’t back Rahm and Legion XIII to win it all. Not only was Rahm the top individual but he captained the best team during the year and he gets plenty of support from teammates Hatton, McKibbin and Caleb Surratt.
