Lions vs. Packers Odds, Picks & Betting Tips

NFL

The Green Bay Packers sent a message to the two-time defending NFC North champion Detroit Lions and the rest of the NFL with their recent acquisition of former Defensive Rookie of the Year Micah Parsons.  The Pack moved to the division favorite in the NFL futures odds market and while also improving their Super Bowl odds. They can validate those moves with a win over the Lions in Week 1. The game kicks off at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 7 from Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI and will air on CBS.

Lions at Packers Preview

The Lions had more regular season wins than the Super Bowl champs over the past two seasons going 27-7. Success comes with a price and the Lions paid it during the offseason losing both coordinators to head jobs in the NFL and some believe there will be some regression after the club won 15 games a season ago. A number of starters return from an offense that led the league in scoring and was second in yards in 2024.

What cursed Detroit was a defense that couldn’t escape the injury bug. New coordinator Kelvin Sheppard will have the services of Aidan Hutchinson, who recorded 7.5 sacks in just five games. And the unit projects to be much stronger than the one that surrendered 45 points in a playoff loss to Washington.

  • The Lions were one of the most profitable teams in the NFL last season going 12-5 ATS.
  • Detroit averaged a NFL best 33.2 points last year helping them go 10-4-1 against the OVER in their last 15 games.
  • The Lions scored more than 30 points in 11 of their last 15 games, including the playoffs, in 2024.
  • Detroit is 3-0 SU and ATS in its last three trips to Green Bay.

The addition of Parsons makes Green Bay more of a threat in the NFC. The question is can he hold up after experiencing back issues in Dallas before the trade? It couldn’t have been that big of an issue or I don’t think the Pack would’ve pulled the trigger. Adding a player of Parson’s caliber improves a club that ranked fifth in total defense and sixth in scoring defense in 2024.

Jordan Love had a good season throwing for nearly 3,400 yards and 25 touchdowns, but his inconsistency has been an issue. The Packers ranked among the top 10 in yards and points, but they lost their last three games, including to the Eagles in the wild card round when Love tossed three interceptions.

  • Parsons has at least 12.5 sacks in each of his first four NFL seasons. No Packer has registered double-digit sacks since the 2020 season.
  • Last season the Packers lost four games by three points or less.
  • Green Bay is 9-4 SU and 8-5 ATS in its last 13 games as a home favorite.

Lions at Packers Predictions

The Lions will be the same but different in 2025. They won’t fall off much if at all offensively with all their skill players back. The schemes will be the same despite a new coordinator. And they will score points. They averaged nearly 30 against Green Bay in two games last year. We didn’t see starters in the preseason and that rust will be evident making the UNDER a good play.
