Jupiter Links vs Boston Common Golf Betting Preview

After watching every other team compete during last week’s double doubleheader, Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club finally gets back on the SoFi Center layout looking to make up ground. Jupiter Links is currently in last place but has played the fewest matches of any team. Sunday’s opponent Boston Common Golf clinched a playoff spot and will be concluding its second season.

Jupiter Links will attempt to match what Boston has already accomplished. Though JLGC is at the bottom of the standings the team is in a good spot to reach the playoffs for the first time. After not winning a match last season, Boston Common Golf clinched a spot in the SoFi Cup with last week’s 9-2 win over New York Golf Club.

Last week’s doubleheader action was furious. Defending SoFi Cup champion Atlanta Drive GC will get a chance to defend its title qualifying for the postseason with a 5-2 win over Boston in Monday’s first match. Atlanta then concluded its season with a 7-3 loss to Los Angeles in the nightcap.

Losing both ends of last Tuesday’s doubleheader put New York GC below the playoff cut line tied with Jupiter with 2 points. Boston rebounded from its first loss of the season to clobber NY 9-2 in the nightcap. In the opener The Bay stayed in the playoff hunt with a 5-3 triumph.

It’s been nearly a month since Jupiter last pegged it up in a TGL betting odds upset win over Atlanta on Feb. 2. Since then every other team has played two matches leaving JLGC at the bottom of the standings.

Having played one fewer match than the three teams they’re battling with for one of two remaining playoff spots, Jupiter is in a good spot. The team still has to win the matches, though. It did against Atlanta with the entire roster contributing.

Akshay Bhatia, Max Homa and Kevin Kisner all made birdie putts during a run of 5 straight points to overcome an early 2-0 deficit. Jupiter played its best Triples taking a 5-2 lead. It was the first time JLGC held the lead after Triples.

The teams played a squeaker last season with Jupiter going to overtime to win its only match. Boston earned its only point of last season with the OT loss. The match was decided by a best-of-three closest to the hole competition.

Tomorrow’s Golf League Schedule and Betting Lines

Only 3 matches remain before the playoffs get underway and four teams are in contention for the remaining 2 SoFi Cup spots. According to the TGL Los Angeles and The Bay have the best chance of making the playoffs with Jupiter being the wild card having played fewer matches.

There has been no official word at the time of this writing, but Tiger could potentially make his season debut in one of Jupiter’s remaining two matches. Woods recently spoke of playing in the Masters and a round of TGL couldn’t hurt his preparation.

Odds for specific matches have yet to be posted and there’s good reason for that. For one the lineups have not been confirmed and with Boston already clinching we could see Rory McIlroy take additional time off to prep for the playoffs.

Listed among the futures favorites before the season, Boston has moved into the top spot on the TGL betting odds board. Boston has been the best team this season going 3-1 and can clinch the top seed with a win or overtime loss.

Boston is listed as the +220 favorite on the SoFi Cup Championship odds with defending champ Atlanta (+300) and Los Angeles (+340) close behind. Jupiter Links has the longest odds making them an intriguing pick ahead of this matchup since they have a match in hand on the teams ahead of them.

Just about everything has gone right for Boston, which has been quite a change from a season ago. Playing in his first TGL match of the season, Adam Scott turned in a brilliant performance in the playoff clinching 9-2 win over New York.

Nasty approach shots in Triples led to easy birdies and Scott drained a birdie putt of his own for a 5-2 lead entering Singles. Scott wasn’t through, though, earning 3 points in Singles with a clutch birdie putt on No. 13 with the Hammer in play.

With Woods and Tom Kim sidelined Jupiter Links has survived behind strong play of alternate Akshay Bhatia, particularly in Triples. The team had problems in this session last season, but with Bhatia striking impressive shots JLGC won 5 consecutive points reaching 5 points in a match for the first.

There are concerns for both teams entering this match. With a playoff spot already secured will Boston be motivated to give its all? And something else to watch is how the Ballfrogs work their lineup. Again, with nothing else on the line after securing a place in the SoFi Cup tournament, why wouldn’t McIlroy or another player take a seat?

Though they haven’t competed in a month I don’t think Jupiter is lacking confidence. Beating defending champ Atlanta in its last match got the ball rolling. “There’s no weak link,” Atlanta’s Billy Horschel said of Jupiter after the loss. “We’re having fun. We’re scoring points. We’re thumping the defending champs. I think Jup Links is officially back,” Max Homa said.

They’re not playing for home field advantage or a first round playoff bye so there really is nothing Boston is playing for. All the pressure in this match is on Jupiter and after their triumph over Atlanta the playoffs are in sight. That’s the little extra something a team needs to get over the top.
