Florida State vs NC State: Odds & Betting Guide
With the College Football Playoff and the ACC Championship game out of the question, the Florida State Seminoles and North Carolina State Wolfpack can become bowl eligible with a win when the two meet in Week 13 of the season. The game is scheduled for Friday, November 21 at 8 p.m. ET from Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh NC and can be seen on ESPN.
Florida State at NC State Preview
With the coaching carousel at full speed Mike Norvell has managed to avoid the carnage and is still guiding the Noles. It’s been a bumpy road this season, one that started with great promise when FSU beat Alabama in the season opener. They tacked on two more wins surpassing their total from last year in three weeks.
However, a four-game losing streak, including three when the Noles were at least a 7-point favorite in college football odds has put the heat lamp back on Norvell. The skid ended with a 20-13 loss to Stanford in Week 8 when FSU was laying 17.5-points. The Noles improved to 5-5 with last week’s 34-14 win as a two-touchdown favorite over Virginia Tech, just their second payout in seven games.
- After a brilliant start to the season that saw Tommy Castellanos mentioned in the Heisman discussion, the QB has slowed. He’s still having a nice season throwing for 2,317 yards and 12 TDs with an additional 8 rushing scores.
- The Noles are second in the ACC averaging 487.5 yards per game.
- FSU has the 7th best third down conversion rate in the country at 51.9 percent.
- All four losses during their recent skid were by a single score and a total of 24 points.
The Pack also started the season with three consecutive victories including impressive wins against Virginia and at Wake Forest. Those teams are a combined 16-5 entering Week 13. But with a defense unable to contain opponents, NC State has dropped five of its last seven going 2-5 against the college football point spread.
Nothing went right for the Pack in last week’s 41-7 loss to Miami. Averaging more than 450 total yards in ACC games entering the contest, the Pack totaled just 143 yards, many coming in fourth quarter garbage time when they were trailing 41-0. And the defense yielded at least 36 points in a fourth straight outing.
- No team in the country is worse against the pass than NC State, which allows an average of 300 yards a game through the air and 8.1 yards per attempt.
- The Pack are also near the bottom of the national rankings in scoring defense (31.6 ppg) and total defense (440.4 ypg). They have cashed the OVER in three of their last four home games.
- The offense has shown explosiveness, just not consistently. They amassed 583 yards in a 48-36 upset of Georgia Tech in Week 10 and have eclipsed the 30-point mark five other times.
Florida State at NC State Predictions
NC State has been ravaged by injuries on the defensive side leading to their lopsided numbers. With bowl eligibility on the line a few key players are expected to return giving hope that the unit can provide some resistance. The last four meetings and seven of the last eight have gone below the opening total of 61.5 and I like that trend to continue.
