Eagles at Chargers: Odds & Betting Tips

A rare interconference matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers with serious playoff implications is featured on the Week 14 edition of Monday Night Football. This will be just the 14th meeting all-time between the franchises with the last in 2021. The game kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Dec. 8 from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA and can be seen on ABC and ESPN.

Eagles at Chargers Preview

With two straight losses the Eagles lost their grip on the best record in the NFC and saw their lead in the East shrink. Part of the problem has been an inconsistent offense that’s averaged just 15.5 points in the last four games. The Eagles won two of them thanks to the defense and they cashed the UNDER on the NFL betting line in all four.

Saquon Barkley wasn’t expected to repeat his record-setting performance from a season ago, but the ground game wasn’t expected to be as bad as it’s been. The Eagles average just 108.5 yards a game and less than four yards per carry. As a result the Eagles average 22.5 points putting them in the bottom half of the league rankings.

  • The Eagles hadn’t allowed more than 400 yards until Dallas amassed 473 in Week 12 and Chicago followed with 425 yards. Philly lost both games.
  • Jalen Hurts has been effective throwing for 2,514 yards and 19 TDs. He tossed just his second interceptions of the year in last week’s loss to the Bears.
  • The UNDER is 4-0 in Philadelphia’s last four games.
  • The Eagles have turned the ball over just 8 times, the second-fewest in the NFL, and boast a plus-5 turnover margin.

The Chargers stewed during their bye over a 35-6 loss to Jacksonville and they emerged by routing the Raiders, 30-14, last Sunday for their fourth win in five games. There is concern over Justin Herbert’s fractured hand, sustained in the Vegas game. Playing with the injury Herbert still completed 15 of 20 passes with 2 TDs as the Bolts put up their second-most points.

All signs point to Herbert playing on Monday night, but if not the Chargers can turn to a resurgent ground game. Last week they amassed 192 yards on 43 rush attempts. Not even with the team at the start of the season, Kimani Vidal rushed for 126 yards and he leads the team with 543 yards and 3 TDs.

  • The Bolts have been sound defensively allowing the third-fewest yards in the NFL and 21.0 points per game.
  • Tuli Tuipulotu had 2 of LA’s 5 sacks last week giving the Chargers 34 for the year.
  • The Chargers boast the NFL’s fourth best 3rd down defense allowing opponent conversions on 34.8 percent of plays.
  • LA has payout wins in each of its last 3 home games holding opponents to an average of 11.3 points.

Eagles at Chargers Predictions

The Eagles snapped back from a 2-game skid earlier in the season winning four straight and scoring 66 points in the first two games. And they won’t have the home fans booing them off the field. Also, it’s not easy playing with a broken hand. The Bolts will have to adjust their offense and as a result I like the Eagles to cover the NFL point spread.

Eagles at Chargers Betting Tips

  • The status of Herbert had something to do with Philadelphia opening as a 3-point favorite.
  • The Bolts are 2-8 SU and 4-5-1 in their last 10 games as a home underdog.
  • The Eagles are -157 on the moneyline and the Chargers are +137.
  • The total opened at 40.5, the lowest in a game for either team this season.
  • The OVER is 5-2 in LA’s last seven games.
  • The Eagles have cashed the UNDER in their last four games.

Eagles at Chargers Head to Head and Key Stats

  • There isn’t much history between the clubs with only 13 prior meetings and none since the 2021 season.
  • The Chargers won the most recent contest, 27-24, for their third win in the last four meetings and the Bolts are 8-5 all-time.
  • Herbert was magical in the 2021 game completing 32 of 38 for 356 yards and 2 TDs. That was the only head-to-head meeting between the starting QBs.
  • This will be the first game between the clubs at SoFi Stadium.
