The defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers are in a good position to repeat pulling away from the competition in the NL West and sporting the best record in the NL thanks to a stretch of 15 wins in 18 games. Despite numerous injuries to the pitching staff leaving front-line starters Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow on the IL along with several high-leverage relievers, the Dodgers have maintained their winning ways behind an offense that leads MLB in runs per game, OPS and home runs. That has also allowed LA to cash the OVER in nearly 57 percent of their games, the second-highest rate in the majors. The Brewers are in the thick of the wild card race and still within striking distance of the Cubs for first place in the NL Central.

The matchup between the Dodgers and Brewers takes place on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from American Family Field in Milwaukee, WI. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET with television coverage on FS1.

A stretch of 15 wins in 18 games came to a resounding end when the Dodgers dropped the opener of their weekend series to Houston 18-1. It was the worst home loss for the club since moving to California in the late 1950s. Over the course of a long season there will be games like that, even for the best teams. And the Dodgers have been among the best all season so that was just a skid mark on the autobahn. It did, however, show what LA’s weakest link is. With so many arms on the injured list the entire staff has been patched together. Once or twice a week the Dodgers will have a bullpen game and those same arms will need to pitch again. The staff ERA climbed to over 4.30 and their 1.32 WHIP ranks the Dodgers in the bottom third.

Offense hasn’t been a problem thanks to the sticks of Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts among others. Ohtani is having another MVP caliber year hitting over .280 with 30 home runs and 56 RBIs. A huge addition to the lineup is second year player Andy Pages. Taking over in center field, Pages has wielded a big stick while also playing strong defense. He’s second on the team with 17 homers and one of eight players with at least 10 dingers. LA has the most home runs in baseball helping them average a MLB high runs per game.

The Brewers have flown under the radar this season and at 50-40 following Sunday’s win over Miami they are within spitting distance of the first place Cubs in the NL Central. They’re not great at anything, just real good at most everything. They rank among the top 10 in staff ERA thanks to the addition of Jacob Misiorowski, and they average 4.7 runs. Tuesday’s matchup is special with rookie Misiorowski scheduled to face 19-year veteran Clayton Kershaw. Misiorowski is coming off the worst start of his young career while Kershaw has helped stabilize a beleaguered Dodgers rotation.

I predict a lot of people will tune in due to the pitching matchup. His return to the bump was shaky, but Kershaw has looked like a former Cy Young Award winner recently. He allowed nine earned runs in 15.2 innings over his first four starts but has pitched to a 2.48 ERA with four wins over his last five outings. In 19 career starts against the Brewers Kershaw is 9-5 with a 2.85 ERA over 116.2 innings. Nearly untouchable through his first three starts allowing only three hits over 16 innings, Misiorowski was tagged by the Mets last time out. The velocity was there with several pitches clocked at 100 mph, but he was charged with five runs, five hits and three walks over 3.2 innings. MLB odds will have the total on the low end of the spectrum for this contest.

The Dodgers have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the clubs with clubs splitting a four-game set in Milwaukee in the most recent series last August. LA won the first two games with Kershaw getting a win after allowing a run and three hits in 5.2 innings. The teams cashed the OVER in two of those games with a push and they’ve surpassed the total in four of the last six encounters. Both teams use their bullpens a lot with LA’s pitching the most innings and Milwaukee’s relievers the fourth-most. Both groups have collective ERA’s over 4.00.

Both clubs will get a chance to score against mediocre relievers and the Dodgers’ offense is the best in the majors making them a smart play in this one. As much as I want to back the OVER this should be a tightly pitched contest making the UNDER the right move.
