Cowboys at Eagles Odds, Lines & Betting Tips

NFL

If you’re playing the Thursday night NFL season opening game you’re either the defending Super Bowl champs or looking to eventually be in that position. In their last meaningful game the Philadelphia Eagles wrecked Kansas City, 40-22, to win the league title in February. They begin defense of their title hosting the Dallas Cowboys in a NFC East matchup. After missing the playoffs for the first time in four years, the Dallas Cowboys made a head coaching change with Brian Schottenheimer making his debut on the Dallas sideline.

Cowboys at Eagles Preview

The 2025 NFL season opener takes place on Thursday, September 4 from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The game will be televised on NBC.

After three consecutive 12-5 seasons the Cowboys dipped last year going 7-10 and missing the playoffs. The club elevated Schottenheimer to head coach after serving as the team’s offensive coordinator the previous two seasons. A full season with Dak Prescott running the offense will help. He missed the final nine games last season with the Boys going 4-5 and averaging fewer than 20 points a game.

The Cowboys’ defense took a hit when former Defensive Rookie of the Year Micah Parsons was traded. Parsons recorded at least 12 sacks in each of his first four seasons but he didn’t help the group last season. Dallas allowed the second-most points and ranked 28th in total defense in 2024.

  • Prescott is 76-46 in his career as a starter and is 9-4 with 24 TD passes in 13 career starts against the Eagles.
  • The Cowboys were 5-3 SU and 4-3-1 ATS on the road last season.
  • Dallas cashed the OVER in 11 of 17 games a season ago, the fifth highest percentage in the NFL.

The Eagles will look to avoid the dreaded Super Bowl hangover and will have to play at a high level with the NFC East looking like one of the toughest divisions in football. They return high-value pieces on offense, including Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. Last year Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards.

It was a successful last season all the way around for the Eagles. They won 16 of their last 17 games, including playoffs, with payouts in 12 games during that span. They tied for the highest cover rate at 66.7 percent.

  • The Eagles swept the last season series outscoring Dallas 75-13.
  • Philadelphia is 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six home games against the Cowboys.
  • The Eagles allowed the fewest points per game and the second fewest yards per game in 2024, but had significant changes on that side of the football.

Cowboys at Eagles Predictions

I get the feeling the Cowboys are being overlooked. I’m still hesitant to back them and the points, but I can see points scored considering both defenses are in a different place. Dallas wasn’t very good last year and losing Parsons didn’t help. The Eagles are down a few key players that formed the best unit in the NFL a season ago and Prescott didn’t face them.

Cowboys at Eagles Betting Tips

  • The Eagles are a 7.5 point favorite with a moneyline price of -364 on the NFL betting line.
  • Dallas is 3-7 SU and 6-4 ATS in its last 10 games when getting at least 7-points. The Boys are +293 on the moneyline.
  • The total hit the board at 47.5

Cowboys at Eagles Head to Head and Key Stats

Despite last year’s results the series has been close over the last five seasons. The teams have split the last 10 games both SU and ATS. We typically see points scored in this matchup, though, if not by both clubs by at least one of them. The winning side has scored at least 26 points in each of the last nine games with the OVER going 7-2.
