USC over San José State: USC should have too much offensive talent for San José State. The larger question is whether the Trojans can create enough separation to cover a 38-point spread. USC is the easy winner prediction, but laying more than five touchdowns is considerably more difficult.

Virginia over NC State: This looks like one of the closest games on the board. Virginia has the home-field advantage and enters after an excellent 2025 season. NC State, however, has enough offensive experience to make this competitive. Virginia is the straight-up pick, but the 5.5 points with NC State are appealing.

North Dakota State over Jacksonville State: North Dakota State enters its first FBS season carrying one of the strongest traditions in FCS history. Jacksonville State is a legitimate test, but the Bison are favored by 6.5 at home and are the choice.

Eastern Michigan over Sacramento State: Eastern Michigan has the experience advantage with veteran quarterback Noah Kim and longtime coach Chris Creighton. Sacramento State is playing its first game as a football-only member of the MAC and its first under Alonzo Carter. Eastern Michigan should win, but covering 9.5 is another question.

Potential Upsets to Watch

Hawai'i is the most interesting upset possibility. Stanford is favored by 5, but the Cardinal are coming off a four-win season and beginning their first year under Tavita Pritchard. Hawai'i went 9-4 last season and returns quarterback Micah Alejado. Taking the five points is safer, but a Hawai'i outright victory would not be a major surprise.

NC State also has a realistic chance to beat Virginia. The Wolfpack return Bailey at quarterback and face a Cavaliers team trying to follow an 11-win season.

Games That Could Be Closer Than Expected

Sacramento State getting 9.5 points deserves consideration. Eastern Michigan has the experience advantage, but Sacramento State's major roster turnover also makes the Hornets difficult to evaluate from previous film. That unpredictability could matter in Week 0.

Memphis-UNLV could also stay tight. Prime makes UNLV only a 4.5-point favorite, suggesting there is not much separation between the teams entering the season.

The Week 0 college football odds show how much numbers can vary between sportsbooks even on a relatively small schedule.

How the Betting Markets Compare

Prime Sportsbook has TCU -8 against North Carolina, while ESPN's displayed DraftKings line was TCU -7.5. A half-point around a key number can matter when making a spread bet.

The totals also show some variation. Prime has USC-San José State at 60.5 after ESPN displayed 59.5. Memphis-UNLV is 56.5 at Prime compared with 57.5 on ESPN.
