Chiefs at Bills Preview, Odds & Best Bets

A battle of AFC heavyweights takes place in Week 9 when the Kansas City Chiefs visit the Buffalo Bills. After the first 0-2 start in the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs have been on fire winning three straight and five of their last six games. The Bills also rebounded from a 2-game slide with a 40-9 win over Carolina last week. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on October 2 from Highmark Stadium in Buffalo. The game will air on CBS.

Chiefs at Bills Preview

The Chiefs have been on top of their game, beating Las Vegas and Washington in the last two weeks by a combined score of 59-7 extending their winning streak to three. While Patrick Mahomes and the offense put up at least 28 points in each of the last five games, KC’s defense has been equally good. The Chiefs are 5-1 against the NFL odds in their last six.

After a slow start to the season Mahomes and the offense have come around. The Chiefs enter Week 9 ranked 5th in total offense and 7th in scoring. Over the last five games they averaged 30.8 points with Mahomes throwing 14 TD passes with at least three in four games.

  • The Chiefs allowed an average of 217.3 yards in the last three games and they rank 4th in the NFL overall giving up 277.8 yards per game.
  • KC has the second-best scoring defense in the NFL allowing 16.4 points per game and have cashed the UNDER in three straight games.
  • The Chiefs are good at extending drives boasting the third-best 4th down conversion rate and sixth-best 3rd down conversion rate.
  • KC is the only team in the NFL to not lose a fumble.

The bye proved to be advantageous for the Bills. They entered the off week on a 2-game losing streak and a 4-game ATS skid but responded with an offensive outburst to beat Carolina 40-9. All the points came in the first three quarters with James Cook rushing for 216 yards and two TDs and Josh Allen accounting for three scores.

The Bills get the benefit of the doubt based on past results, but they’ve had a relatively easy time with their five wins against teams without a winning record and a combined losing percentage of .744. The defense suffered a blow with the loss of Ed Oliver for an indefinite period of time.

  • The Bills are 0-3 ATS in their last three home games.
  • After rushing for a career-best 216 yards last week James Cook is second in the NFL with 753 yards and averages 6.0 yards per carry.
  • Buffalo has the NFL’s best ground game, third-best total offense and ranks 4th in scoring with 29.6 points per game.
  • The Bills average the second-most yards per play in the NFL with 6.12.

Chiefs at Bills Predictions

Defending the run has been the Chiefs biggest issue on defense. They allow 4.4 yards per carry and you can expect the Bills to give plenty of carries to Cook, who has rushed for more than 100 yards in four games, including 216 on 19 carries last week in Carolina. Backing the OVER on his rushing yards in this game is a good wager.
