Cavaliers at Pistons Preview, Odds & Betting Tips

The Cavaliers held serve in their Eastern Conference semifinal NBA playoff series with Detroit sending the teams back to the Motor City even at two games apiece. Donovan Mitchell was the key to the Cavs’ Game 4 win scoring 39 points in the second half and 43 for the game.

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised at how the series has gone. The Central Division foes split their four regular season games and have done the same in this series. The home side has emerged victorious in each of the last six games between the clubs and the Pistons are laying 3.5-points on the early NBA Playoffs spread.

Cavaliers at Pistons Preview

Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons is scheduled to tipoff at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI. The game will be televised live on ESPN.

Public Betting Odds Factors

  • The way the teams have played this season the series will likely go the distance leaving the winner poorly situated for the conference final. One of these teams will face New York in the next round and the Knicks are just waiting after sweeping Philly.
  • It would be difficult for Donovan Mitchell to have another game like he did on Monday. Mitchell tied an NBA record with 39 second half points to help the Cavs even the series with a 112-103 victory. It’s also unlikely the Cavs have a scoring run like the 24-0 surge they used to take control of Game 4.
  • The scoring binge from Mitchell was kind of brewing, though the first half on Monday gave no indication of what was to come. Mitchell scored 31 points in Game 2 and tallied 35 with 10 boards in the Game 3 win. He’s averaging 33.0 points in the series.
  • It wasn’t just Mitchell leading the way in Game 4. The Cavs got a strong game from James Harden with 24 points and 11 assists. Evan Mobley had 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.
  • Getting Harden untracked on the road will help the Cavs in their quest for a series win. Harden struggled in the first two games shooting just 32.1 percent from the field and going 1 of 11 from behind the stripe. The last two games he was almost 43 percent from the floor and was 8 of 16 from deep.
  • The Pistons have already been through the ringer this postseason so losing twice in Cleveland isn’t going to distract them. They rallied from a 3-1 deficit to beat Orlando in the opening round overcoming a 24-point deficit to win Game 6 on the road. Detroit has won its last 5 home playoff games after dropping the first round opener.

Cavaliers at Pistons Predictions

  • For those who say the home team gets the calls in the NBA this series is evidence. Three times in the first four games the home squad had a significant advantage at the free throw line. The Cavs went 30 of 34 from the stripe in Game 4 while the Pistons were just 9 of 12. Mitchell made more free throws (13) by himself than the Pistons attempted.
  • The Pistons have relied on Cade Cunningham all season and into the playoffs. He scored at least 32 points in each of the last three games against Orlando to rally from a series deficit and he’s been prolific at home this postseason averaging nearly 32 points per game while shooting 46.2 percent from 3-point range.

Cavaliers at Pistons Betting Tips

  • The Cavaliers have yet to win a road game this postseason going 0-5 SU and against the NBA Playoffs betting line. They averaged just 100.2 points in those games, cashing the UNDER three times.
  • Detroit has won its last five home playoff games with payouts in four of them.
  • The Pistons have allowed an average of less than 100 points in six home games this postseason, cashing the UNDER four times.

Cavaliers at Pistons Head to Head and Key Stats

  • The home team has won each of the last six meetings between the clubs, getting the payout in the last five.
  • The series has been close over the last 10 meetings with each club winning 5 games with 5 payouts. The difference is the home team is 7-3 in those games.
  • Donovan Mitchell scored at least 30 points in five of six games against Detroit this season and averaged 32.8 points in those games.
