Braves at Phillies MLB Preview: Odds & Expert Insights
Teams expected to contend for the NL East title collide on FOX Saturday Baseball in the middle game of a 3-game set. The Atlanta Braves have lived up to their billing leading the division while being the only member over .500 through games on Tuesday. Philadelphia fell to the Cubs, 10-4, on Tuesday, their fifth setback in seven games.
The pitching matchup has not been confirmed but the Phillies are expected to send ace Cristopher Sanchez to the hill against former Cy Young winner Chris Sale. That matchup and playing at home will put Philly as a slight MLB betting odds.
Braves at Phillies Game Preview
- The middle game of a 3-game set between NL East rivals the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. ET with the game airing on FOX.
- The Braves continue a stretch of 13 straight games against division foes looking to continue their success from a season ago. Atlanta was 30-22 against the division with winning records against every team but Philadelphia. The record was more impressive since the Braves ended 10-game below .500
- Expected starter Chris Sale has been a major contributor for MLB’s top pitching staff. In four starts he’s 3-1 with a 3.27 ERA giving up just 17 hits in 22 innings. Sale rebounded from his worst outing of the season by allowing one earned run in 6.0 frames in a 13-1 win over.
- Atlanta hurlers lead MLB with a 2.93 ERA thanks to a stingy bullpen that owns the best WHIP at 1.04 in the Majors. Through 18 games relievers have a 2.80 ERA and the group is one of only two to not blow a save. The pen is 5 for 5 in save chances with 60 Ks and 14 walks.
- Since winning 6 of their first 10 games the Phils have struggled dropping 5 of 7 after Tuesday’s 10-4 loss to the Cubs. They did score 28 runs in that span but 13 of them came in one game. In the other 6 games they averaged just 2.6 runs and were shut out twice.
- Overall in the early part of the season the Phillies have been about average offensively. They have the bats to do more damage than what they have in recent games and players like Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Adolis Garcia are performing below their norms.
- Since becoming a full-time starter in 2024, Cristopher Sanchez has blossomed into one of the top hurlers in MLB. Over that time frame he’s gone 26-15 in 67 starts with a 2.84 ERA and 13.1 WAR. He’s been even better on his home mound going 20-8 with a 2.68 ERA in 61 career games at Citizens Bank Park.
Braves at Phillies Predictions
- There have been low scoring games recently between the Braves and Phils and with two polished starters on the bump the offenses will be scratching for runs. Probable starters Sale and Sanchez have been good limiting home runs making opponents earn what they can.
- Philly has not performed well against left-handed pitchers this season and they are going against one of the best in Sale. As a team they are batting just .176 with 39 strikeouts in 148 at-bats against southpaws. Led by Kyle Schwarber with a league high 26, the Phils also strike out a lot. That sets up nicely for Sale and a strong Atlanta bullpen.
Braves at Phillies Betting Tips
- The Phillies went 8-9 through their first 17 games, but they were a disaster on the run line with a 4-13 record against the spread.
- The OVER went 7-3-1 in Philadelphia’s first 11 home games this season. The Braves cashed the OVER in 5 of their first 7 road games.
- Atlanta hit the OVER in a third straight game in Tuesday’s 6-5 win at Miami. It was also the 8th time in 9 games they went above the closing total on the MLB betting line.
Braves at Phillies Head to Head and Key Stats
- Philadelphia won 4 of the last 5 meetings and won the series 8-5 last season winning 5 of 7 games at home.
- The teams cashed the UNDER in the last 3 matchups and in 5 of the last 6 overall.
- Sale and Sanchez faced each other in the penultimate meeting last season in a pitcher’s duel. Sanchez allowed one earned run in 7.0 innings in a 3-2 Phillies victory.
