Boston Common Golf at Los Angeles GC | TGL Odds & Picks
The second season of Tomorrow’s Golf League started the same way the previous campaign ended with Atlanta Drive GC beating New York GC 6-4 in a SoFi Finals rematch. Boston Common Golf is hoping Season 2 has a different vibe, though, as it looks for its first TGL match win taking on Los Angeles Golf Club on Friday.
TGL Preview
The second season for Boston Common Golf and Los Angeles GC gets underway on Friday, January 2, following up the initial match of the season that saw TGL teams Atlanta Drive GC and New York GC duel in a rematch of last season’s championship final.
Boston Common played a number of close matches last season, but despite the presence of Rory McIlroy, one of the top players on the PGA Tour, the Ballfrogs were the only team that failed to win a match finishing at the bottom of the standings in the inaugural campaign.
LAGC looks to continue its torrid pace from last season as the only team to go unbeaten in regulation. The starting trio for this match, however, doesn’t include Tommy Fleetwood, who anchored the unit last season.
- Boston is getting a lot of respect at the betting window after not winning a match last season. The Ballfrogs have leapt to the top of the TGL futures market and they are listed as a -125 TGL betting favorite for this match.
- Michael Thorbjornsen makes his TGL debut as an alternate for Boston and will be joined by McIlroy and Keegan Bradley in the starting trio.
- In their 6-2 win over Boston Common last season, LAGC feasted in Triples play going 5-0.
Tomorrow’s Golf League Schedule and Betting Lines
The interactive golf venture co-owned by PGA legends Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods has sparked interest among a younger generation of fans, both on the links and at the betting window. In its short existence Tomorrow’s Golf League has been a huge success and it’s time for McIlroy to show up for his team.
With the career Grand Slam finally checked off his PGA to-do list, McIlroy will undoubtedly concentrate on his TGL team responsibilities, which is another reason why Boston Common is listed as the TGL betting favorite.
As every player realized last season, simulator golf is much different, and McIlroy will need to guide his new TGL teammate Thorbjornsen through the rigors.
TGL Schedule

Boston Common Golf (-125) vs. Los Angeles Golf Club (+100)
- The teams finished at opposite ends of the standings a season ago with Boston Common looking for its first-ever match win and LAGC aiming to stay perfect in regulation play. LAGC will also look to remedy the pain of an upset loss to New York GC in last season’s semifinal playoff round.
- The LAGC roster returns intact but the team will be without Tommy Fleetwood in the opening match. Fleetwood was a major player in last season’s 5-0 record against Boston in Triples play. He also ranked fifth in driving accuracy during the regular season.
- Boston will rely on the experience of McIlroy and Keegan Bradley to carry the team in its opening match. The PGA Tour veterans played all five matches a season ago and will need to prop up TGL debutant Thorbjornsen in the opener.
- There is a reason why Boston Common is grabbing plenty of attention at the start of the season. Not only does the team now have a career Grand Slam winner, but it played much better at times than the record would indicate.
- The bottom line is wins and losses and Boston was close on several occasions as stats would show. With McIlroy launching bombs the Ballfrogs were first in average driving distance at 318.8 yards and also ranked third in GIR and Singles holes won.
- Triples played a major role in last season’s match with LAGC going 5-0. With standout singles play from Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala, LA was pretty good in that area as well. Morikawa was undefeated in Singles last regular season and Theegala won six Singles, including a 2-0 mark in the playoffs.
TGL Boston vs. Los Angeles Top Matchups
- Without Fleetwood Los Angeles GC loses some distance off the tee that could affect their short game. And they thrived around the GreenZone last season with the second-best scrambling percentage while routinely making shorter putts at a high percentage. Every shot counts and one misstep on approach could make all the difference.
- McIlroy against Rose in the leadoff Singles pairing is magical. The two battled for the green jacket at Augusta National in April with McIlroy eventually prevailing in extra holes for his first Masters win and the career Grand Slam. The two will play longer holes giving Rory an advantage with his length off the tee.
- Thorbjornsen will have a difficult task in Singles play against Theegala in his first TGL match. An exquisite ball-striker, Thorbjornsen had a strong PGA season recording five top 10s, including a runner-up finish at the Corales Puntacana Championship. Theegala has already played the holes the two are scheduled to compete on, giving him an edge.
Best TGL Bet for Boston vs. Los Angeles
- I’m drinking the Kool-Aid and backing Boston for a match win. With some PGA tasks taken care of, McIlroy can focus on the task at hand, which is getting Boston its first match win. Overall Boston was decent in Triples play last season making their performance in a loss to LAGC more baffling. And besides it’s hard to not win at least one hole in nine tries. Look for better Triples play from the Ballfrogs with the experience of McIlroy and Bradley.
- The absence of Fleetwood is going to be more impactful for LAGC than the addition of Thorbjornsen for Boston. Simulator golf isn’t the same, but it’s not like Thorbjornsen is coming in blind. He’s had a few goes and will be backed by one of the top players in the sport. Check out the TGL betting guide for additional wagering opportunities.
TGL Boston vs. Los Angeles Betting Tips
- With every team loaded with stars it’s hard to expect Los Angeles GC to go unbeaten in regulation like they did a season ago. And it’s hard to imagine a team with McIlroy not winning a match. Before anything else Boston has to get that monkey off their back and with a more focused McIlroy the healing can begin now.
- The final standings from last season don’t support it but Boston wasn’t far off from being a more competitive team and even a playoff contender. They dropped several close matches with the 6-2 loss to LAGC the worst of the bunch.
- The experience of McIlroy and Bradley playing in every match last season along with the youthful innocence of Thorbjornsen should propel Boston to a match win.
