BMW Championship Betting Guide: Odds & Predictions
The FedExCup Playoffs continue this week with the top 50 golfers in the point standings advancing to the BMW Championship after a thrilling finish last week in Memphis. Justin Rose edged J.J. Spaun on the third playoff hole for his first Tour victory in more than two years. Rose and Spaun completed 72 holes one swing better than World No. 1 and standings leader Scottie Scheffler, who recorded his 12th consecutive top 10 finish. Not surprisingly Scheffler opened as the outright PGA betting odds favorite with Rory McIlroy the only other player with shorter than 10/1 odds. With his position in the TOUR Championship solidified, McIlroy took last week off so he should be well rested. McIlroy is behind only Scheffler in the FedExCup standings and in the world rankings.
BMW Championship Overview
The 2025 BMW Championship returns to Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland for the first time since 2021 and just the second time ever. The limited field of 50 golfers will navigate the layout from August 14 through August 17. Last year Keegan Bradley was the last man in the field at No. 50 in the standings yet he prevailed by a shot over a trio of players. There was no pressure making the field this time with a win at the Travelers in June along with four other top 10s putting Bradley among the top 15 in the standings. Five golfers leapt into the top 50 with their performance in Memphis with Ricky Fowler moving from No. 64 to No. 48 with his T6. J.T. Poston moved up one slot to claim the final spot for this year’s edition. The last time the tournament was contested at Caves Valley Patrick Cantlay won an epic six-hole playoff over Bryson DeChambeau launching him to the FedExCup championship. It was also the first of back-to-back wins at the BMW Championship making him the only player to accomplish that feat. The 2025 BMW Championship will be televised on NBC, Golf Channel and ESPN+.

BMW Championship Top Contenders
Tommy Fleetwood +2303
It seems like only a matter of time before the seven-time DP World Tour winner cashes in with his first PGA Tour title. He’s been so close recently with five top 10s in his last 10 starts that you can almost taste it. He finished with a share of third last week one shot off the pace after opening 63-64 in Memphis. His form has been so solid all year with only one MC and 14 top 25s.
Rory McIlroy +740
While everyone else was battling it out in Memphis last week, McIlroy was chilling for the final push to the TOUR Championship. That can be viewed in a variety of ways, but the laser focused McIlroy has only one goal. He placed among the top seven in each of his last three starts with a co-runner showing at the Genesis Scottish Open last month. McIlroy also brings plenty of success at the BMW into this week. He’s finished inside the top 20 in each of his last seven starts with three of them getting him into the top 5. One of those was a solo fourth in 2021 when the tournament was played at Coves Valley.
Justin Rose +6513
Just in the last six years we’ve seen a golfer win two tournaments in the same playoff three times and twice it was done consecutively. That fact is not lost on Rose, who prevailed last week on the third playoff hole ending a lengthy drought and continuing a run of strong form. In his two previous starts Rose earned a share of 16th at The Open and was solo sixth at the Genesis Scottish Open. Recent form, history and an inviting price make Rose a player to look at.
Xander Schauffele +1631
The X-man finds himself in unfamiliar territory needing a good showing to advance to next week’s TOUR Championship. He’s currently 43rd in the standings and has been dealing with inconsistency all season. He has shown signs of returning to the form that made him one of the best at his craft with a pair of top 10s before a T22 last week in Memphis. And he’s been good in this tournament with top 10s in each of his last three BMW starts.
BMW Championship Prime Free Picks
Last week we saw players rise to the occasion to advance in the playoffs. I can see something similar happening with Schauffele being a prime target. He needs a good finish to move up the rankings and he’s been playing strong golf lately. Fleetwood is also a player to watch with a limited field giving him less opposition in his quest for that maiden Tour title. However, when the chips are down the best rise to the occasion, which is why we can expect a shootout between Scheffler and McIlroy.
