Alabama at Georgia Prediction & Betting Odds

It seems like every game in the SEC is a powerhouse matchup, but it doesn’t get any bigger than the Alabama Crimson Tide against the Georgia Bulldogs. It’s one of five games on the Week 5 college football schedule between ranked teams. The Tide recovered from an opening loss to Florida State by beating their last two opponents by a combined score of 111-14. The game takes place between the hedges at Sanford Stadium in Athens, GA on Saturday, September 27. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

Alabama at Georgia Preview

Having a week off to prepare for one of the biggest games of the season is a plus. Doing so on the heels of consecutive blowout wins is even better. Following their upset loss to Florida State in the season opener when favored by 13.5-points on the college football betting odds, Alabama responded by whacking Louisiana-Monroe 73-0. Winning that game wasn’t a surprise, but the Tide’s sheer dominance was.

The offensive revival can be attributed to the play of Ty Simpson. In the FSU game he completed just 53.5 percent of his passes. However, in the last two he’s been on fire going a combined 41 of 46 for 608 yards and 7 TDs. He’s yet to throw an interception. The Tide did what it had to against two overmatched opponents.

  • Alabama has scored on 17 of 20 possessions in the last 2 games, including 15 TDs.
  • The Tide has the third best pass defense in the country allowing an average of just 108 yards.
  • The last time Bama was an underdog was in Week 5 last year against Georgia. The Tide won the game outright 41-34 getting 2-points at home.
  • Bama is 6-2 against the NCAAF betting line in its last eight regular season games.

While the Crimson Tide took last week off the Bulldogs were going back and forth with Tennessee. The teams combined for nearly 1,000 yards of offense with Georgia getting a late TD and 2-point conversion to send it to overtime where the Dawgs eventually prevailed, 44-41. UGA had allowed a total of 13 points in its first two games, but Marshall and Austin Peay aren’t Tennessee.

Like Bama the Bulldogs have a new starting QB who appears to be settling into his role. Gunner Stockton was 23 of 31 for 304 yards and two TDs against the Vols, a much sharper outing than either of his first two starts. The Dawgs will need Stockton at his best against a fast, ball-hawking Alabama defense.

  • The Bulldogs have allowed 40 or more points in a game 7 times since the 2020 season, twice to Alabama.
  • Since the 2022 season Georgia is 10-2 SU when playing as a road underdog, but they are just 1-8 ATS in the last eight of such games.
  • Stockton has four TD passes and three rushing scores this season.

Alabama at Georgia Predictions

Both defenses had issues against higher quality opponents and this matchup has the potential to be a track meet. The QBs have shown improvement over the course of the season giving this game a strong chance of going OVER the closing point total.
