2025 Big 12 Football Odds: Favorites & Betting Preview

Prior to last season the Arizona State Sun Devils were picked to finish last in their debut Big 12 Conference season. But ASU surprised everyone, probably including themselves, on their way to 10 regular season victories and a win over Iowa State in the conference championship game. Repeating will be tough in a league that should be tight once again.

Last year four teams finished atop the Big 12 standings with a 7-2 league record and three others won six games. With a slim margin between the top clubs, oddsmakers expect more of the same in 2025 with six teams boasting between 5/1 and 9/1 college football futures odds. The Sun Devils are in the mix but slightly behind favorite Utah and Kansas State.

2025 Big 12 Season Preview

The Sun Devils lost Cam Skattebo but they return plenty of talent at the skill positions putting them in good shape for a repeat. Chaos should and will ensue with a handful of teams all poised to make the leap. If the new faces on offense can produce Utah has a strong chance to make oddsmakers look good. Defensively the Utes have always been good. Kansas State and Texas Tech are getting plenty of action while TCU, Baylor, BYU, Iowa State and Kansas have potential to be a sleeper.

2025 Big 12 Favorites

Utah +506

The offense struggled without Cam Rising and the Utes suffered through their first losing season in more than a decade. Transfer Devon Dampier is the likely QB1 heading up an entire lineup of new skill position players on that side of the ball. Defense has always been a strength at the U and the group has solid players returning, allowing Utah to adjust offensively early in the season.

Kansas State +552

Entering the final month of last season the Wildcats were primed for a trip to the Big 12 Championship. Then they lost three of four games in November and were denied. Still, the Cats won nine games and return one of the most dynamic players in QB Avery Johnson, who threw for 2,715 yards and rushed for 605 yards accounting for 32 TDs. They also have several starters back on a defense that allowed 23.4 points per game a season ago.

Arizona State +567

It will be difficult to replace the 2,316 scrimmage yards and 24 total TDs Cam Skattebo had last season. That might be the only challenge for the Sun Devils. With an experienced roster and gifted transfers to fill a few holes, ASU will be back in the hunt. Sam Leavitt returns to lead an offense that averaged nearly 33 points by throwing for 2,885 yards and 24 TDs. The Sun Devils won’t sneak up on anyone this year, but that won’t matter with their roster.

Texas Tech +586

The Big 12 is known for offense and Texas Tech could have the best unit this season. Despite dealing with a shoulder injury most of last year, Behren Morton directed the Big 12’s highest scoring team throwing for over 3,300 yards and 27 TDs. The group could be more prolific if Morton is healthy. The Red Raiders’ hopes lie in a defense patched together through the portal.

2025 Big 12 Longshots

Baylor +850

At this price in just about any other conference Baylor would be a favorite. They closed last season with six straight wins dropping 59 on Texas Tech in the run. They have as much returning talent as any team in the country and, in my opinion, should be considered a threat to the teams with shorter odds.

Iowa State +1030

Can the Cyclones build off the best season in program history? They won 10 regular season games and reached the Big 12 title game, only to lose to ASU. There are a lot of good QBs in the Big 12 and Iowa State has one in Rocco Becht, who threw for over 3,500 yards and 25 TDs, with an additional eight TDs on the ground. There are holes to fill, but ISU could be back in the title game if things go their way.

Throw a dart and back the team it lands on, that’s the betting strategy in this market. I do like K-State given their experience and Baylor is loaded. ISU could be back playing for a title and if Utah’s offense comes around the Utes are a threat. And given ASU’s turnaround last year, no team feels out of the race.
